New Citroën Basalt 2025 arrives as the cheapest SUV in Brazil. Find out what's different about Citroën's new SUV that costs less than R$90.
After many spy shots, the new Citroën Basalt 2025 has been fully revealed. As expected, the design of the new cheapest SUV in Brazil remains the same as the concept presented a few months ago, despite some differences from the Indian car. Unlike the C3 Aircross, Citroën's new SUV comes with a version with a 1.0 naturally aspirated engine with an eye on the compact sedan market.
Citroën's new SUV delivers up to 75 horsepower
The Citroën Basalt 2025 will be sold in three versions, one with the 1.0 naturally aspirated engine with manual transmission, and the others with the 1.0 turbo and CVT transmission, the set known as T200. In terms of dimensions, the cheapest SUV in Brazil is 4.343 mm long, or 23 mm longer than the C3 Aircross.
However, the model prioritizes the rear overhang to create harmony due to the coupe-like roofline, with a 2.645 mm wheelbase. In this way, Citroën's new SUV reached 490 liters of trunk space according to VDA measurements.

The Citroën Basalt 2025 Feel 1.0 comes with a 1.0 Firefly naturally aspirated engine, an old acquaintance of the stellantis. With three cylinders and 6 valves in a single camshaft, it delivers 71 hp and 10 kgfm with gasoline and 75 hp and 10,5 kgfm with ethanol. In a car that weighs 1.120 kg, it has consumption approved by Inmetro at 13 km/liter in the city and 14,6 km/liter on the highway, with gasoline, and 9,3 and 10,2 km/liter, respectively, with ethanol.
How much will the cheapest SUV in Brazil cost?
For Basalt Feel Turbo and Shine Turbo, as the name suggests, the 1.0 turbo was chosen. Connected to the CVT gearbox with 7-speed simulation, it has 125 hp with gasoline and 130 hp with ethanol, with torque of 20,4 kgfm with both fuels.
The consumption of the new Citroën SUV is 11,9 km/liter in the city and 13,7 km/liter on the highway, with gasoline, and goes to 8,3 and 9,6 km/liter, respectively, with ethanol. It is worth noting that the prices of the new cheapest SUV in Brazil start at R$ 89.990 and reach R$ 107.390.
Despite having been developed jointly by the brand's Brazilian and Indian teams, the Citroën Basalt debuts with significant differences between the two countries. Visually and structurally, the car is the same in both markets, but in terms of content, each model followed different specifications to meet the specific demands of each market.
What are the differences between the new Brazilian and Indian Citroën SUV?
On the outside, Brazil's cheapest SUV is identical to the Indian one and strictly follows the design philosophy of the other models in the project. C-Cubed. Highlights include the bodywork with a characteristic fit of SUVs with a coupe feel, rectangular headlights with irregular contours on the sides and a trunk lid with a slight protrusion.
When it comes to versions and equipment, there are important differences. In India, the Basalt catalog starts with the 'bull' version, which has a very simple and spartan appearance. In practice, it does away with features such as hubcaps, multimedia center, painted door handles and fog lights. It also does not have electric rear windows or three-point seat belts for the middle passenger.
In Brazil, the range starts with the Feel equipped with elements painted in the same color as the body, multimedia center with 10-inch screen, rear camera, 16-inch alloy wheels, electric windows on all four doors and three-point seat belts for all passengers. However, it loses out to the Indian model by offering only 4 airbags for all versions.
