The new expansion was designed with the aim of increasing the storage and distribution space of the logistics company

Localfrio, company of the logistics sector integrated, made investments of around R$ 50 million in a new distribution center in Itajaí, Santa Catarina. The new center will have 7,4 square meters and will be dedicated to the storage operation, being the company's second distribution center in the municipality of Santa Catarina, which now has more than 10 square meters available in the region. Investments destined for the new CD are planned for the next four years.

“We are increasing our capacity by investing in a new DC in Itajaí, Santa Catarina. The investment is going hand in hand with our strategic planning, with a view to expanding our portfolio of services and increasingly verticalizing our involvement with customers. (…) It is a center fully capable of serving the most varied logistics operations and meets the demand of our customers, offering them complete solutions that add value to their logistics chain”, reports Piero Simione, commercial director of Localfrio.

The company believes that the new distribution center will reach 100% of its storage capacity in the first half of 2023, which could increase Localfrio's revenues in Santa Catarina by 20%. It is estimated that importers and industry are the main users of this type of warehouse.

More on logistics: The challenges of overcoming the lack of structure for logistics in Brazil

Logistics is one of the major bottlenecks in Brazilian economy. The country has serious problems with the lack of infrastructure, especially in roads, railways and ports. The logistics sector is a strategic area for most companies. In Brazil, logistical costs are high compared to other countries and make producers less competitive in the foreign and domestic markets.

According to the person responsible for the development and management of assets at Finvest in Minas Gerais, André Pompeu, it is not just the precariousness of infrastructure that generates losses. “Logistics goes far beyond that. To reduce these costs, the first step is to know them: inventory, storage and transport, in addition to other costs that are often ignored by managers”, he warns.

Material handling, for example, can be responsible for up to 25% of production costs with inventory costs already included, while packaging costs can represent 30% of the final cost of a product. Therefore, it is essential to adopt strategies and take actions to overcome this challenge, so that productivity and quality in operations are not lost.

The technology already presented itself as a great ally in the most diverse business processes, being fundamental for increasing productivity, optimizing production and making even more assertive decisions. Within logistics this is no different, because, in addition to minimizing the number of failures, technological solutions can reduce logistical costs by up to 30%, depending on their purpose.
