Brazilian universities launch free online courses focusing on ethnic-racial and quilombola education, offering 7,5 places for teachers and managers of Basic Education.

Education is about to take another inclusive and innovative step. Brazilian universities have just announced a Free course which promises to open doors for thousands of professionals interested in strengthening ethnic-racial and quilombola education in the country.

With 7,5 thousand vacancies available, registrations are completely online and offer a unique opportunity for distance learning (EaD), aimed at educators, managers and other education professionals.

More than 7 thousand vacancies and support from the Ministry of Education

The Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) and the University of Pernambuco (UPE) launched a joint notice offering the course “Training for Teaching and Management for Ethnic-Racial Relations Education (Erer) and Quilombola School Education (EEQ)”.

The program, supported by Ministry of Education and Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), has the participation of the Federal University of São João del-Rei (UFSJ) and the Federal University of Goiás (UFG).

The course, which starts in February 2025, will be taught in a Virtual Learning Environment (AVA), where synchronous and asynchronous activities will be carried out with specialized tutoring.

Divided into four modules, it seeks to consolidate ongoing training for teachers and managers of basic education.

The total workload is 120 hours, distributed over three months, offering a complete and accessible learning experience.

Registration for the free course on ethnic-racial and quilombola education

Registration is open until November 25th and are exclusive to the internet.

Each interested party must choose one of the universities — UFPE or UPE — and submit the application through the corresponding website, where an electronic form must be filled out and supporting documents attached, such as ID, CPF, proof of residence and diploma.

Each university has its own selection committee.. Therefore, candidates must follow the entire selection process and results on the website of the institution they chose to enroll in.

Target audience and distribution of vacancies

As 7,5 thousand vacancies will be equally divided between UFPE and UPE, leaving 3.750 for each one.

The course is primarily aimed at teachers and managers of Basic Education, with the aim of strengthening anti-racist and inclusive practices in the school environment.

Interested parties are divided into three main groups:

  • 1 Group: Teachers and managers of the public Basic Education network in office.
  • 2 Group: Teachers and managers of the private Basic Education network in office.
  • 3 Group: Basic Education Professionals who are not in the previous groups.

The modules address topics of relevance to Brazilian cultural diversity, from a historical overview to democratic management strategies for diversity.

Course structure and content

The course will be organized into four main modules, covering everything from historical introduction to educational practices focused on diversity. See the modules below:

Brazilian ethnic-racial and quilombola panorama: an introduction to quilombola and ethno-racial history and culture in Brazil.

Cultures and territorialities: analysis of the cultural and territorial specificities of these communities.

Anti-racist education in practice: practices and methodologies for inclusive and anti-racist education.

Democratic management for diversity: leadership and management strategies in education focused on ethnic and cultural diversity.

    These units seek to provide a solid understanding of ethnic-racial issues and quilombola school management, encouraging an educational vision based on equality and respect for differences.

    What will the virtual learning environment be like?

    All content will be made available on UFG Virtual Learning Environment (AVA).

    In this environment, students will have access to activities with flexibility, being able to choose between live sessions (synchronous) and activities to be carried out in the student's available time (asynchronous).

    Tutors will be available for support, facilitating interaction and resolving doubts throughout the course.

    This online model allows learning to adapt to participants’ routines, ensuring an inclusive and flexible educational experience.

    With the technical and logistical support of universities, the course reinforces accessibility for professionals from different regions of the country.
