Luxury electric pickup truck was 'abandoned' for months as towing companies refused to rescue it
A video published earlier this year on social media caused controversy by showing a electric pickup Rivian R1T stuck in a ditch in the Arizona, United States, for a few long months. According to information from people living nearby, the vehicle would have slipped into the ditch in February due to the ice, remaining there for a long time local.
Why has Rivian's electric pickup truck been in the ditch for so long?
The Rivian's removal from the ditch was prevented by several specialized companies. According to reports, the companies refused the service due to liability and safety concerns regarding the electric car's batteries.

O R1T weighs almost 3,2 tons, and its battery located in the lower part of the vehicle became trapped between the sand and rocks, making rescue risky. Pulling it out could damage the battery, a repair that is not only expensive but also dangerous due to the risk of fire.
Despite the obstacles, the place where the R1T was located did not seem completely inaccessible. This fact raised doubts about why the vehicle remained there for so long, generating a series of theories and questions among internet users.
Theories and doubts of internet users
Social media users have questioned the veracity of the situation involving an abandoned Rivian vehicle. Initially, many wondered why the owner would leave such an expensive car in an isolated location for so long, especially with the door unlocked.
The videos indicate that, despite the difficulties in recovering the vehicle, it is unlikely that anyone would abandon an electric pickup truck in this state, which generated even more speculation. In addition, the condition of the car raised new questions. Despite having supposedly been parked since February, the vehicle appeared to be in good condition.
Update on the story of the 'abandoned' electric pickup truck
As previously mentioned, the Rivian R1T electric pickup truck got stuck in a forested area in February 2024, and was only rescued in June of the same year. During this period, there was speculation about the reasons and circumstances that led the vehicle to this situation, generating curiosity among internet users and fans of the brand.
Given the lack of information on social media, a specialized news site contacted Rivian directly to seek clarification.
After just two days, Rivian responded, stating that the R1T that was stuck in a ravine had been recovered. According to Mikhael Farah, Rivian’s director of product communications, “Our engineering team was in the area and decided to help. With a specially equipped R1S, we were able to rescue the vehicle and get it back on the road".
While the reason why the vehicle got stuck has not been detailed, it is speculated that the driver may have planned to go off-road to explore the area. However, this attempt does not seem to have gone as expected, leading to the R1T getting stuck in the forest.
This incident brings an important warning: in extremely difficult situations, where local tow trucks are unable to carry out the rescue, it is possible and recommended to contact the manufacturer directly.

A troller and a rope will solve this mess…
This is more propaganda than material, it is worth asking, does the car have insurance? If it has to be left with the insurance company and towed as well, if it is damaged or catches fire it is the insurance company's problem.
Insurance companies in North America do not offer towing services, as they do in Brazil…and the tow truck companies did not want to be responsible for any damage.
You don't say “front trunk”, the correct name is engine compartment, the lid being the hood.
Have you ever seen a Beetle Brasília Variant with a front trunk? It doesn't have an engine compartment since it has 4 engines next to the wheels and not in the front trunk...
Nonsense just to create content on social media. Any truck with a Munck can solve this in less than 2 hours.
