Malu Calçados announces its closure and generates 300 layoffs in early 2023

The member of the Minuano group, Malu Calçados, has been operating in the city of Crissiumal, northwest of Rio Grande do Sul, for over 14 years. In addition to generating 300 direct jobs, it was also the city's largest source of ICMS. 

After going through financial difficulties, the group closed the shoe factory in the interior of the state, which caused 300 people to lose their jobs. According to the director of the company, the plant was causing a lot of damage. 

The Minuano group works with leather, also selling to several other companies. Malu Calçados was the only shoe factory belonging to the group, ending its activities in January of this year. 

According to the director of the group, Bárbara Enzweiler, this unit closure It is part of the companies' judicial recovery process, which began in 2020.

The director of the group also said that it is not a definitive closure, but a stoppage for an indefinite period. Even so, it was a company decision permanently terminate all employees. 

Although 300 employees have already been laid off, the contracts for pregnant women will still remain active. In this way, workers will receive their wages normally while they are pregnant. 

Union monitors the situation 

Representatives of the Federation of Workers in the Footwear and Clothing Industries of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (FETICVERGS) monitored the mass layoffs of this shoe factory. 

João Nadir Pires, the president of the organization, spoke about the subject. According to him, the feeling is one of sadness for the closing and for the layoffs of so many people. However, at the same time, he is very satisfied with the fulfillment of all labor rights, even with the company undergoing judicial recovery.
