Chinese want to install thermal power plant in Maricá. Project with a potential of 2,6 GW, with the objective of consolidating the city as an important industrial center for natural gas!

Excellent news for Macaé, last Friday (02/09), the mayor Fabiano Horta received a delegation from the Chinese construction company Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC) to consolidate the protocol of intentions with the aim of building a thermoelectric power plant in Maricá.

This is the Chinese group's second visit to the city. The first took place in March of this year when representatives of the China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC) went in search of information for the implementation of projects in the energy and natural gas sectors.

The construction of the Power Maricá Complex will undergo several feasibility studies before starting, including economic modeling, area concession, environmental licensing, auction for the production of electricity, among others.

The installation of the plant aims to consolidate Maricá as an important natural gas industrial center, thus attracting companies in the sector.

The mayor of the city, Fabiano Horta, considered the interest of the Chinese group to be extremely important for the city and considers that the geographic position of the municipality and the economic and financial stability achieved by the management were decisive for the choice of Maricá. "Today, we have a very stable and targeted situation in the city, which provides the arrival of these investments that generate work and income for our population", he said.

Thermoelectric power plant has the potential to generate 2.600 megawatts of estimated energy per month.

The expectation of one of the leaders of the negotiation, the CEO of the construction company CGGC in Brazil, Rafael Qi, is that the new plant will be installed in the city in the next five years.

“We are carrying out the conceptual studies for this project, but the natural resources that we already know the city has, such as gas and oil, greatly favor the undertaking”, said the executive, who highlighted that the thermoelectric plant has the potential to generate 2.600 megawatts of energy assessed per month.

The pipeline will bring gas from Búzios, in the Santos Basin pre-salt – an asset that also counts on the presence of the Chinese companies CNOOC and CNODC, with 3,7% each.

Already the pipeline offshore arrives on land in Maricá and is then connected to a gas pipeline Onshore, which will take the gas to Itaboraí – where Petrobras' natural gas processing unit (UPGN) is being built at Polo GasLub (formerly Comperj).

A CGGC is considered the 33rd largest contractor in the world by contracted revenue and currently executes projects in 100 offices around the world.
