Meeting in Macaé discussed the prospects for growth of the oil and gas industry with the increase in offshore activity for the next seven years
The municipal secretariat for Economic Development and Environment of Macaé, was the scene of a meeting between the executive secretary of the Brazilian Association of Petroleum Services Companies (Abespetro), Gilson Coelho and the secretary for Economic Development and Environment, Gerson Martins, in the last Wednesday (05/06).
Prospects for the sector over the next seven years were discussed, with investments of around R$ 285 billion in the State of Rio de Janeiro.
The exploration of new reserves, auctioned by the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) in the last three years, together with the strategy to revitalize mature fields, indicate the resumption of operations in the oil and gas sector in Macaé.

The operators' intention to expand production capacity in the reserves, located in the Campos Basin, was one of the reasons for such optimism for the city of Macaé.
Meeting between government entities, associations and other people linked to the oil and gas sector in the region
The Abespetro secretary stated that: “The industry is prepared to reactivate oil and gas operations, through the investments foreseen by the operators. In addition to the ANP auctions, the strategy to revitalize mature fields expands the supply of oil for production, which increases Brazil's participation in the world oil and gas market”.
Moving about 30% of the GDP of the State of Rio de Janeiro, the oil and gas industry expects to experience a new cycle and growth, it is worth remembering that Brazil is now the 9th country with the largest oil production capacity in the world.
Macaé's role
According to Abespetro, Macaé is already feeling the effects of improvement in the sector with the infrastructure works carried out, such as the construction of Estrada de Santa Tereza, the expansion of the Airport and the installation of the new port.
The Secretary of Economic Development and Environment of Macaé reinforced this statement by saying that the municipality has been preparing to meet this new demand.
Gerson further stated that “Licensing applications for companies in this sector are increasing. These are concrete data from the secretariat, which motivate us to help Mayor Dr. Aluizio to take important decisions to prepare the city and stimulate the oil and gas production chain, with important potential to generate jobs”.
