Get ready for a transformation that promises to change the face of the extreme south of Bahia. A silent revolution is underway, orchestrated by the company Contegran, which recently announced a giant investment of up to R$1 billion in the construction of a sugar cane plant.

But what is the true impact of this initiative? How can a plant transform an entire region? Keep reading and discover how this initiative can be the catalyst for profound changes, affecting the economy, the community and even Brazil's global status in the agricultural commodities market.

According to Renan Lippaus, founder and CEO of Contegran, in interview with Exame website, the construction of this plant, scheduled to be completed by 2026, is more than just an industrial venture – it is a bet on the future of the region.

The investment, which varies between R$800 million and R$1 billion, promises to initially create 500 jobs, and could reach up to 1 jobs – in the interview, he did not reveal the city, but the CPG got in touch to find out the information.

This move not only offers new employment opportunities, but also promises to inject a significant amount of money into the local economy, potentially triggering a virtuous cycle of economic growth and social development.

A rapidly expanding company

Founded in 2019, Contegran did not always operate with sugarcane, having started its trajectory focusing on the wholesale trade of Brazilian coffee. Since then, the company has not stopped growing.

In 2022, Contegran reported net revenue of more than R$40 million, a result that would be just the beginning of its meteoric rise.

Next year, the company expanded its operations to the international market, exporting coffee to European countries, Asia e Middle East.

This expansion resulted in an impressive growth of 67,98% in its net revenue, reaching more than R$73 million in 2023. This notable performance guaranteed Contegran the twenty-sixth position in the “Businesses in Expansion” ranking.

Diversification and Focus on Agricultural Commodities

But Contegran didn't stop at coffee. According to Lippaus, the company recently started exporting sugar and intends to close 2024 with revenues of R$500 million, with this product as its flagship product.

Furthermore, the company plans to further diversify its portfolio, starting to work with pepper and cocoa later this year, in addition to increasing the volume of coffee exported.

This diversification strategy is a direct response to the growing global demand for agricultural commodities, an area where Brazil has increasingly stood out.

“The world is looking at Brazil as a major producer of agricultural commodities, and we are also watching this,” highlighted Lippaus. This vision reflects confidence in Brazil's potential and the crucial role that the country can play in the global agricultural scenario.

Economic and social impact of the plant

The construction of the sugarcane plant is not only a victory for Contegran, but also for the local community.

The creation of up to 1 jobs represents a vital opportunity for local people, providing not only jobs but also training and skills development.

This project could be the engine that drives the socioeconomic development of the region, bringing improvements in infrastructure, services and quality of life for local inhabitants.

Contegran’s promising future

With a trajectory marked by growth and innovation, Contegran is positioned to continue its rise in the global commodities market. The construction of the sugarcane mill is just the next step in a well-planned expansion and diversification strategy.

According to the company, the company is not only consolidating its presence in the sugar market, but also exploring new opportunities in other agricultural sectors, always keeping an eye on global trends and demands.

Reader, how can the construction of this sugarcane plant impact the economic future of the extreme south of Bahia and which other regions of Brazil can follow this successful example?
