During his recent visit to Peru, Chinese President Xi Jinping launched operations at the future Chancay Port Complex, an ambitious project that promises to be the largest commercial port in South America. Located at a strategic point on the Peruvian coast, the megaport is an emblematic initiative within the New Silk Road, consolidating China’s influence in global trade. With the capacity to move millions of tons of cargo annually, the project is expected to transform the region’s logistics and trade landscape, including direct impacts on Brazil. China opens port in neighboring country of Brazil with investments of R$ 19,7 billion
China's new port in Peru is located about 70 km north of the Peruvian capital, Lima. It is a superlative project, led by the Chinese state-owned shipping company Cosco Shipping Company and with total investments estimated at US$ 3,4 billion, equivalent to R$ 19,7 billion.
The Chinese megaport is expected to have 15 piers, offices, logistics services and a 2 km long tunnel for cargo transportation. Eight years after construction began, the completion of the first phase of the complex was announced in November, during Xi's visit to Peru to participate in the APEC summit held in Lima.

China opens a port in a neighboring country of Brazil, taking an important step towards expanding its presence in Latin America. It was conceived as part of the New Silk Road, a strategic initiative that has been implemented for years and has among its objectives the increase of Chinese presence and influence in the world.
With China's new port in Peru, the country increases its capacity to unload goods in South America and transport products imported from the region, mainly minerals, such as lithium and copper, and agricultural products, such as soybeans.
Chinese megaport promises to generate 7,5 direct and indirect jobs
Peru's Minister of Communications and Transport, Raúl Pérez Reyes, said the Chinese megaport will allow his country to position itself “as a logistics center for all of Latin America”.
The Peruvian government estimates that the project will create 7,5 direct and indirect jobs, a figure that critics view with skepticism, arguing that in other projects in Latin America, Chinese investments have employed more workers brought from China than local labor.
China is opening a port in a neighboring country of Brazil and there is an expectation that this will reduce the time taken to transport goods and, consequently, freight costs, which would make it attractive to logistics operators. The government estimates that the duration of freighter trips from Peru to Asia would fall from 40 to 28 days. The main reason is the location chosen for the port.
Impact of China's new port in Peru on Brazil
Like Peru, Brazil is another country with increasingly close political and commercial relations with China. The Asian giant is Brazil's main trading partner and the Brazilian government has shown interest in the Chinese megaport.
The Minister of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet, visited Peru in March. According to the official Peruvian note, the objective of the visit was to learn about Peru's plans and strategies to promote South American integration routes.
Leonino Dourado, from the Center for Studies on China and Asia at the University of the Pacific in Lima, told BBC News Mundo that the two governments and the company indicate that Chancay should also become a transport hub for Brazilian exports.
China, a one-party state, makes a lot of investments worldwide, since it does not spend as much to support politicians and the public machine.
If I'm not mistaken, corruption has the death penalty. Even though I'm right-wing, I wouldn't be ashamed to copy things that work in China 😁😂🤣🙏✌️💪
If the death penalty is implemented in Brazil, I believe that 50% of the population will die!!
Much more than 50%. Remember that the culture of Brazil is made up of criminals expelled from Portugal. Imagine the politicians then, there would be no one left.
Corrupt people there are shot in the back of the head and the ****'s family pays for the bullet.
Unfortunately, this is the pure truth!! We have to get rid of the parasites ****!!
Wow, what a text ****. What are the impacts for Brazil and Latin America ****
I would like to update myself. This port should be connected to the railroad that leaves São Paulo, connecting the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific. This railroad from São Paulo, in turn, branches off from another that leaves the North, passing through the Northeast and the center. In other words, Brazil will be able to export to the East. The Panama Canal will be left empty! The USA and the European Union will lose much of their importance!
It is not a logistical revolution. It is just an attempt at a political revolution. However, China is not used to dealing with democracies. In democratic countries, governments change, and revolutions happen when governments displease the will of the people. Let us remember that industrialization in any country in the world means a break with China (at least in the next 30 years).
This was not said in the article, whose title says that the port is a concern for Brazil…
