Hoping to create 500 new jobs in Pouso Alegre, Midea plans to build a new factory after the dry season. The company operates in the home appliance industry and is going to invest around R$580 million in this project.

Midea, one of the biggest client in the home appliance business in the world, is just waiting for the end of the dry season to start building its new home appliance factory in the city of Pouso Alegre, Minas Gerais. According to the information released so far, the project's investments will be around R$ 580 million, which could generate 500 jobs directly in the municipality.

The Group announced its arrival in the State of Minas Gerais approximately one year ago, receiving shortly after, the approval of its environmental license, necessary for installation in the municipality.

In the same way as happened with the Heineken Brewery, the works for the factory are authorized, but they have to wait for the rains to give a break.

The space acquired for the construction of the headquarters is 200 thousand meters, located on the banks of the Fernão Dias highway, in the Algodão neighborhood.

The forecast is that the operations will generate 500 jobs in the municipality and the estimated revenue is R$ 700 million.

“The factory will start with the production of washers and then refrigerators. They will be on Panasonic's tail (which produces the same products in Extrema, also in the south of the state)", declared a source close to Midea, who was asked to preserve his identity.

Founded in 1968, the Midea Group is one of the largest home appliance manufacturers in the world, with branches in over 200 countries and nearly 150 employees.

Elected in 2020 by the Fortune Global 500, the company is part of the list of the 500 largest companies in the world. It started its business in Brazil as an importer, strengthening its presence in 2011 through a joint venture with Carrier.

Midea Carrier currently owns the Midea, Carrier, Springer and Toshiba Lifestyle brands.

According to the company, the Pouso Alegre factory will be its third in Brazil. In its initial announcement, the forecast was that the unit would start the operation phase in the year 2023.

The company's other units are located in Amazonas and Rio Grande Sul. These headquarters have a production capacity of over 3 million air conditioning units for residential and commercial lines.

The factory in Manaus, in Amazonas, is responsible for producing air conditioning and microwaves, while the one in Canoas/RS is focused on manufacturing commercial air conditioning systems.

“Over the last few years, we have significantly grown our market share by entering several appliance categories with imported products, now the time has come to invest in local manufacturing to continue growing. Our goal is to be among the top three players in the market within five years. We are very confident in achieving this goal”, declared Felipe Costa, CEO of Midea Carrier, in March 2022, in the announcement of the investment in Minas Gerais.

Midea's CEO also states that the decision to invest in building an appliance factory in Pouso Alegre is part of the company's strategy, in which it seeks to remain among the largest manufacturers of white goods in the market. In addition, with the construction, it is expected to generate around 500 jobs for residents of the region.
