Even with an accumulation of fines of more than R$ 1,2 million in the state of Minas Gerais, the mining company Gute Sicht continues its excavation operations in the areas of Serra do Curral and causes even more environmental impacts in the state of Minas Gerais.
The government of the state of Minas Gerais has already imposed more than R$ 1,2 million in fines for environmental impacts on the mining company Gute Sicht so far, as a result of its irregular operations in areas designated by the Belo Horizonte city hall in Serra do Curral. However, the company has not commented on its operations and continues to mineral excavation in the region this Saturday (25/06), ignoring the consequences of mining in protected areas.
Environmental impacts caused by the excavation of the mining company Gute Sicht in the state of Minas Gerais already generate fines of R$ 1,2 million and the company maintains operations
The city hall of Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais, recently released data on the application of fines to companies in the mining sector in the region, and the results for the mining company Gute Sicht are alarming. This is because PBH informs that the mining company Gute Sicht has already accumulated 18 fines, totaling R$ 1.268.656,75 in fines, for causing environmental degradation and for non-compliance with the municipal ban in the region.
The company currently works with excavation and dumping operations in areas listed by the city hall as belonging to the Serra do Curral region and has been causing a series of environmental impacts in the region.
- More than 3 operations, 33,5 kilos of gold confiscated and R$245 million in losses from illegal mining mark the largest offensive ever recorded in the Yanomami Indigenous Land
- China buys more gold than any other country in the world and has already accumulated 2.264 tons in its coffers
- Uranium? No way! China is eyeing a monumental deposit of rare earths in a mine in the Amazon!
- Hamad Port, a monumental work that revolutionized Logistics, Engineering and Maritime Trade in the Middle East
Thus, the Mina Boa Vista project was banned by the BH City Hall on May 25 and the Municipal Attorney General's Office contests the manifestation of the company and the AGE in the 5th Tax Court. Thus, the mining company is not only ignoring the recommendations of the state government, but also accumulating new fines for environmental impacts.
In addition, the state government found that Gute Sicht's excavation operations in the Serra do Curral region were intensified when attention was focused on the licensing of Taquaril Mineração S/A (Tamisa) granted by the State Council for Environmental Policy (Copam ) and by the State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainable Development (Semad), earlier this month.
In this way, the company used the moment as a smokescreen to continue its operations and further degrade the environment in the region.
Belo Horizonte Attorney's Office highlights that excavation of Gute Sicht has already caused irreparable environmental impacts in the Serra do Curral region
Although the mining company is being sued in court to suspend its excavation operations in the Serra do Curral region, the Belo Horizonte attorney's office claims that the packing list by Gute Sicht have already caused irreparable damage to the site.
In addition, she claims that the mining company is neglecting the requirement of prior environmental licensing and, currently, is in clear violation of Article 24 of the Federal Constitution.
The prosecution continues pointing out the constitutional violation by Gute Sicht and stated, in a note: “to the extent that the provision of state law violates the principles of prevention, precaution and proportionality in the sense of insufficient protection. This is because the removal of the requirement of prior environmental licensing as an undeniable requirement for the performance of potentially harmful activities to the environment weakens the constitutional protection of the ecologically balanced environment”.
Finally, the mining company Gute Sicht states that it does not carry out any operation without government authorization and provided all the necessary clarifications about its excavation activities in Serra do Curral. Now, the Belo Horizonte attorney's office is moving to seek the necessary measures so that the environmental impacts of the mining company do not continue in the region.
