MODEC began construction of the FPSO Errea Wittu this week, destined for ExxonMobil operations off the coast of Guyana. This new platform marks ExxonMobil's fifth development in the Stabroek block. With an investment of US$12,7 billion, ExxonMobil's Uaru project in Guyana is scheduled to start in 2026. The new FPSO built by the Japanese company will have the capacity to store 2 million barrels of oil, producing around 250 thousand barrels per day, and will play an important role in the oil company's strategy in its new project.
FPSO Errea Wittu: MODEC begins construction of new ExxonMobil platform for Guyana
The Japanese company MODEC confirmed this week the start of construction of the FPSO Errea Wittu, destined for operation by ExxonMobil in the waters of Guyana.
The FPSO marks ExxonMobil's fifth development in the Stabroek block, located offshore Guyana.

MODEC officially started construction of the FPSO Errea Wittu, in a ceremony that marked the beginning of the works.
Located in the Uaru area, this new venture is valued at US$12,7 billion and is part of ExxonMobil's commitment to expanding its operations in the region.
During the ceremony, MODEC emphasized its collaboration with ExxonMobil Guyana and partnership with Guyanese companies such as Asequith Group of Companies, Guyana Oil & Gas Support Services and Zeco Group of Services Inc.
These partnerships highlight MODEC's role in stimulating the development of the region's FPSO market.
FPSO Errea Wittu will be key to ExxonMobil’s Guyana project
The FPSO Errea Wittu will be fundamental in the development of ExxonMobil's Uaru project, scheduled to start in 2026.
With capacity to store 2 million barrels of oil and produce around 250 barrels per day, the vessel will be equipped to treat 540 million cubic feet of gas per day and perform water injection at a rate of 350 barrels per day.
In addition to announcing the start of construction phase of the FPSO, MODEC highlighted the importance of February as an important month in its expansion journey, also marked by the announcement of its office in Guyana.
The company considers this essential movement as a demonstration of its commitment to the country.
ExxonMobil plans to operate six FPSOs in the Stabroek block by the end of 2027. The oil company's plan aims to explore resources estimated at more than 11 billion barrels of oil equivalent.
Katsuyuki Imaizumi, Director of Operations at MODEC, expressed enthusiasm regarding the Uaru project as a symbol of ExxonMobil's commitment to the region.
The FPSO Errea Wittu will be essential on this path and is already being prepared for the start of operations.
