Known for its constant innovations that ensure sustainable practices, the company reformulates the composition of its 20-liter bottles using post-consumer recycled resin from Braskem
Moove, a global lubricants and base oil company, responsible for manufacturing and marketing Mobil™ lubricants, has been constantly evolving, developing processes and initiatives that prioritize ESG premises and commitments. In line with the purpose of “Moving people and businesses in the right way for everyone”, the company considers environmental aspects in all stages of its production processes and now presents a new technology for its 20-liter drum, which becomes produced with post-consumer recycled resin from Braskem. This initiative contributes to the reduction of plastics in the environment and guarantees the completeness and quality of the product and packaging.
Post-consumer recycled resin, known as PCR resin (post-consumer recycled, in English), is produced from plastic waste that is properly disposed of and sent to the recycling process. A pioneer in the use of this raw material in lubricant packaging, Moove joined forces with Braskem, the largest producer of thermoplastic resins in the Americas, and Raízes, a national company that manufactures bottles, to generate positive impacts in economic and sustainable terms through this innovation. . “The 20-liter bottle is produced with 40% PCR resin. The use of this plastic resulted in a 6% decrease in Moove's total virgin plastic consumption”, explains Marilia Goldschmidt, Mobil™ Brand Marketing Manager.
The use of post-consumer recycled resins contributes significantly to the reduction of waste in the environment. Starting the use of PCR in the second quarter of 2022, it is estimated to reach, this year, approximately 500 tons of recycled plastic. The plastic used in this technology comes directly from the Jogo Limpo Institute – an association of manufacturers or importers of lubricating oil that performs the reverse logistics of used plastic packaging – thus closing the cycle of this product.

At Braskem, the project is also recognized as an action of great importance for the company, which, like Moove, is dedicated, on a daily basis, to building a more sustainable future. “This project reinforces Braskem's commitment to sustainable development, in addition to demonstrating the quality and diversity of applications of our PCR. We are proud to promote partnerships with companies from countless segments, uniting different links in the production chain and closing the circle of the circular economy”, says Américo Bartilotti, director of Braskem's packaging and consumer goods business.
To put the new 20-liter drums on the streets, Moove relied on the experience of Raízes, responsible for transforming Braskem's PCR resin into the first drum with recycled material on the domestic market, through the use of multilayer technology, which intersperses independent layers of virgin material and PCR in the same product. To ensure total satisfaction of the end customer, tests were carried out on the filling line, stacking, storage and long-distance shipping, all of which were carefully and successfully approved by Moove's quality department, with Raízes monitoring.
Moove continues to test new drums and flasks and this is another step that the company takes, following its commitment to maintain sustainable practices in all its processes. In 2005, the company pioneered the launch of “Troca Inteligente”. The use of bulk lubricants provides many advantages ranging from savings to environmental protection. Since its launch, millions of plastic packages have already been discarded. In addition, the main products of the Mobil™ brand, such as the Mobil Delvac™ product line for trucks, the preferred brand for truck drivers, now invests in this recycled packaging technology.
