The theme was already dealt with in a transversal way and now gains even more prominence

Rio de Janeiro, November 17th – Ocyan, a company in the oil and gas sector, will launch a new affinity group, in addition to the existing groups in its Diversity and Inclusion Program, now fully dedicated to discussing and implementing actions in favor of race issues. The launch is part of the company's awareness actions during the week in which Black Consciousness is celebrated. The program launched two years ago was recognized by Reptrak research members – 81,5% of them agreed that the company has advanced in approaches to the subject in the last year.

The commander of the ODN II probe, Ricardo Amoêdo, who has been with Ocyan for 10 years, will be the leader of the group. He began his journey as a nautical officer practitioner, went through other positions as second nautical officer, until he reached the position he currently works as a long-haul commander. Ricardo was in charge of the construction project for the 4 Ocyan drillships, where he was commander of NORBE VIII, NORBE VI, and ODN II.

“As the leader of the Breed Affinity Group, I will have a team, and that team will be made up of volunteers. I will have the duty and obligation to listen to them so that we can combat the issue of prejudice. This is a cultural issue, which requires a lot of education”, he comments.

In addition to the group, the company will promote a live for members with activist and pedagogue, Benilda Brito. Benilda was a professor of Human Rights and has participated in the feminist and black movements since the 80s. She currently coordinates the Human Rights Program at ODARA – Instituto da Mulher Negra in Salvador – BA.

Ocyan's Diversity and Inclusion Program was launched in 2019. Since then, the focus has been on mobilizing and raising awareness among company members. Now, the challenge is to support the messages and consolidate the project through practical actions.

“We have reached a new moment in the program and the launch of the race group reinforces that we are on the right track by deepening more and more diversity actions in the company. In 2020, more than ever, the subject of racial issues prevailed in the world and this encourages us to advance more and more with it also within the company. Companies are part of society and social discussions need to reverberate effectively in some way”, highlights Nir Lander, director of People and Management at Ocyan.

In 2021, the leaders of the Gender Equality, People with Disabilities and Race affinity groups will rely on internal mentors to exchange experience. “Mentors are part of the company's top leadership. The main objective is to bring the debate between the focal points of decision-making even closer, in addition to promoting experiences on management and leadership between them and their mentees”, points out Nir.

The Mais Diversidade consulting firm, which has supported Ocyan since the Program's structuring, signed a new partnership with the company to support selection processes, attracting diverse candidates to strategic positions in the company, as happened with the internship program this year, when 47 % of candidates hired in the process were black or brown.
