Undue discounts on retirement and pensions affect more than one million Brazilians, reveals INSS audit.
The INSS audit brought to light a worrying reality: more than one million retirees and pensioners had undue discounts applied directly to their benefits, without any authorization. The discovery generated indignation among the elderly people affected, many of whom were victims of charges they did not even know existed.
An emblematic example is that of Francisco Hércules Marques, who had R$154 deducted throughout 2024, in installments destined to an association that supports retirees. The detail? He never requested the services nor authorized the charges.
Alarming pattern that the INSS audit has exposed
Walter Andrade is in a similar situation, having discovered that he has been paying R$70 per month since 2023 to an unknown entity. Both the cases are part of a pattern alarming that the INSS audit has exposed.

Although the INSS allows agreements with unions and associations, the problem lies in the lack of consent for deductions. According to the agency, almost eight million beneficiaries have some type of discount on their payments.
However, it was the significant increase in complaints about undue discounts that prompted the investigation. Between January 2023 and May 2024, more than one million people were victims of unauthorized charges, with an average of R$39,74 being withdrawn from each benefit each month.
How to block undue discounts
With the increase in irregularities revealed by the INSS audit, beneficiaries can resort to a simple step-by-step process to protect their rights:
On the INSS portal home page, click on “New Request”.
Look for the “Delete Monthly Fee” option.
Select “Delete Membership or Union Dues from Benefit.”
Click “Update” and then “Next”.
Attach the requested documents and continue.
Choose the INSS agency of your preference and check the information provided.
Check the option “I declare that I have read and agree with the information above” and complete the process.
With measures like these and monitoring of the INSS audit, it is expected that beneficiaries will have more security in your rights and are able to recover amounts charged unduly.
