Meet the MEC
The history of the MEC begins in 1930, when the Ministry of Education and Public Health was founded under the government of Getúlio Vargas. As can be seen from the name, education was not the only area covered by the ministry, which also developed activities relevant to health, sport and the environment.
Only in 1995, during the Fernando Henrique Cardoso government, education became the exclusive responsibility of the Ministry, despite the acronym MEC, created in 1953, being maintained.
This is the Education portal for all Brazilians. Since 1930, MEC has sought to promote quality education in Brazil. With the launch of the Education Development Plan (PDE), in 2007, the MEC reinforces a systemic vision of education, with integrated actions and without disputes over funding spaces.
