The partnership between companies brings a revolutionary mining project. Valued at R$5 billion, it foresees the creation of 55 thousand jobs and respect for quilombola communities. The construction of a railway and a steel mill by 2028 promises to change the economy of the region and serve as a model for the sector in Brazil.

Imagine a project so grand that it promises to transform not only the local economy, but also the lives of thousands of families in one of the most iconic regions of Brazil.

A billion-dollar investment, unprecedented alliances and a commitment to respecting traditional communities make this project a milestone in mining sector.

A billion-dollar investment to change history

The partnership between Brazil Iron and Bahian Mineral Research Company (CBPM) brings a new era to mining in Chapada Diamantina, Bahia.

Rated in $ 5 billion, the project includes the construction of a railway and a steel mill, which should be completed by 2028.

According to the Notícias de Mineração portal, this initiative promises to strengthen the third largest mineral hub in Brazil and bring significant injections into the local economy.

CBPM, a state-owned company from Bahia that has focused on mineral research for more than five decades, is taking on a consultancy and logistics role for the first time.

This strategic change seeks to meet specific demands, such as the relationship with quilombola communities close to the exploration area, in Piatã.

Commitment to sustainability

Unlike previous projects, marked by conflicts and lack of dialogue, the partnership adopts a more responsible operating model.

Henry Carballal, president of CBPM, highlighted that the state-owned company's advisory role seeks to ensure that the interests of local communities are respected.

“CBPM has taken on the responsibility of ensuring that the project moves forward responsibly, with a focus on the interests of the state and local communities,” said Carballal.

This approach includes the use of strict sustainability criteria, fundamental to preserving the culture and rights of the quilombola communities, who have inhabited the Fazenda Mocó mine region for generations.

This commitment, according to Carballal, marks a change in the state-owned company's philosophy, which was previously limited to research.

Now, CBPM works directly in the planning and implementation of projects, mediating relations between the mining company, the government and civil society.

Job creation and billion-dollar revenue

The economic impact of the project is significant. According to Emerson Souza, vice president of Institutional Relations at Brazil Iron, the estimate is that 55 thousand empregos direct and indirect are generated over the next few years.

In addition, the Bahian government must collect tax revenue of $ 47 billion.

For Souza, the difference in this initiative lies in the balance between economic development and social respect:

“This iron ore project is not just an economic investment. It represents a development opportunity for the region. CBPM’s participation teaches us the importance of maintaining a transparent relationship with local communities.”

This dialogue proved to be essential, especially in a sector historically marked by conflicts with traditional communities.

In previous projects, the lack of communication with the quilombolas generated tensions that delayed and even made operations unfeasible. Now, the partnership with CBPM aims to avoid such problems.

Why Chapada Diamantina?

Chapada Diamantina is already a strategic point for mining in Brazil. Rich in mineral resources, the region ranks third in the national production ranking, behind only Minas Gerais and Pará.

Furthermore, its geographical location favors the export of minerals.

With the construction of the railway, the flow of ore will be facilitated, strengthening the production chain and attracting new investors.

The inclusion of a steel mill in the project also increases the possibilities for generating added value, reducing dependence on the export of raw materials.

Cultural and social impact

More than impressive numbers, the project raises important questions about the interaction between large enterprises and traditional communities.

In Chapada Diamantina, quilombolas play a crucial role in preserving the region's history and culture.

Respecting their demands is not only a matter of social justice, but also a requirement for the success of the project.

CBPM has acted as a bridge between these groups and Brazil Iron, ensuring that decisions are made in a transparent and inclusive manner.

The future of mining in Bahia

With challenging deadlines and ambitious goals, the project in Chapada Diamantina represents a new chapter for mining in Brazil.

The integration between economic development, social responsibility and sustainability can serve as a model for other initiatives in the country.

However, the success of this venture will depend on the ability to balance economic and social interests.

The history of mining in Brazil shows that this balance is not always easy to achieve, but the Bahia Iron-CBPM project appears to be on the right track.

Will this model be replicated in other states? What is your opinion on the impact of a project of this magnitude on the local economy and society?

It appears to be yet another isolated railway, which does not favor the integration of railway tourism, emphasizing a system linked to mining and steelmaking.

For several years, the CBPM, its Board of Directors and its technicians have carried out exceptional, competent and efficient work in the mining sector of the State of Bahia, achieving positive results to boost the economic and social development of the State and the country. It is truly a dynamic driving force behind this development. May it continue on this path, deserving of the recognition of all Brazilians. Congratulations.
