With the purchase of the startup, Multilaser will aim for new products for its brand, in addition to becoming the first assembler of 100% electric vehicles in the Manaus Free Trade Zone
Multilaser announced this week that it purchased Watts Mobilidade Elétrica, a electric motorcycles, founded in 2018. Watts, which assembles electric two-wheeled vehicles in Manaus, was purchased for BRL 10,5 million. Multilaser's real intention when buying the startup was not just to enter a new product segment, but mainly to gain new models of points of sale.
Startup acquisition process
The new acquisition will make Multilaser the first assembler of 100% electric vehicles, in the Free Trade Zone of Manaus, in addition to expanding Watts Mobilidade Elétrica's commercial reach and technical assistance. Watts also has several stores and dealerships in 10 states and also in the Federal District.
Atrio's products, which are also Multilaser's, especially aimed at electrical sporting goods, will be offered at Watts' points of sale. Some startup models already have the Certificate of Adequacy to Traffic Legislation (CAT), which enables the registration and licensing of vehicles with the transit executive bodies, from all units of the Federation.

According to Multilaser's Vice President of Product, André Poroger, there is great potential for adoption by professionals and companies that already operate in the logistics sector, vehicle rental, as well as snack delivery applications, etc.
For Rodrigo Gomes, CEO of Watts and who will remain at its head, he has a vision of the future where not only companies and delivery systems can use electric motorcycles, but motorcyclists in general can also use this 100% electric vehicle.
The company was already considering expanding its production in Manaus and Multilaser's proposal came at the right time, especially in terms of investment and perspective of earnings. Among the most diverse products already approved by Denatran, the W125 electric motorcycle model is one of the main highlights, being match for match in terms of performance and usability.
Electric motorcycle market growth
Just like the market for 100% electric vehicles, the electric motorcycle market continues to make strides in Brazil. Bringing customers an offer that is getting bigger and better every day on the market, coming from newer automakers, which are achieving great prominence, in relation to traditional automakers.
According to studies, which took into account the period between May 2020 and May 2021, there was a 1.200% increase in the acquisition of electric motorcycles. The biggest growth is in 50-cylinder vehicles, which advanced 317%, or 46% of 100% electric vehicles.
The 150-cylinder versions also saw a 107% increase in demand, while the 190 12 200 cm³ equipment saw an increase of 117%. The data also revealed that the biggest buying representatives were Shineray, Voltz and Aima. See below:
