Scientist unravels biblical mystery! Archaeologist Stephen Compton finds place where angel decimated almost 200 soldiers 2.700 years ago. The historic discovery confirms biblical descriptions and challenges modern science. Will other Bible stories also be proven true? Read more about this impressive archaeological revelation!
2.700 years ago, a biblical event describes the destruction of 185.000 Assyrian soldiers by an angel sent by God.
Now, archaeologist Stephen Compton believes he has discovered the exact spot where it happened. With evidence based on historical records, Compton identified military bases dating back to 700 BC, corresponding to King Sennacherib's siege of Jerusalem as described in the Bible.
Sensational Discovery
The journal Near Eastern Archeology published the study where Compton reveals his detailed research. He followed historical clues and discovered that the Assyrian military camp mentioned in the Bible corresponds to a recently identified base.

Historical records show that the Assyrian army commanded by Sennacherib was preparing to invade Jerusalem, as described in 2 Kings 19:35, where an angel of the Lord exterminates the soldiers by night.
Historical Evidence
Berosus, a Babylonian historian, wrote that a plague devastated the Assyrian army, while the Greek historian Herodotus claimed that rats destroyed the Assyrians' weapons, leaving them vulnerable. These stories, although different, corroborate the devastation of Sennacherib's army described in the Bible.
An image carved into the walls of King Sennacherib's palace was crucial for Compton to begin his research. The engraving showed the celebration of the conquest of Lachish, a city south of Jerusalem, by the king's troops. Compton compared this image with features of the current landscape and created a virtual map to the location of the Assyrian camp.
He found similarities between the camps at Lachish and Ammunition Hill. The engraving illustrated the construction of the camp in an oval shape, characteristic of Assyrian camps. The Survey of Palestine investigated a ruin north of Jerusalem, suggesting it was a military camp. However, Roman camps were always rectangular, while the one found was oval, typical of the Assyrians.
Importance of Discovery
Compton's discovery sheds new light on the exact location of the Jerusalem siege camp, described in three books of the Bible and depicted in major works of art. Compton highlights that the occupied hill was known as Jebel el Mudawwara, “The Mountain of the Invading Ruler's Camp,” further corroborating his theory.
War between Angel and Soldier is a Milestone in Biblical Archeology
Compton's research is a landmark in biblical archaeology, providing a detailed and informed view of historical events described in the Bible. The identification of the exact place where almost 200 soldiers were decimated by an angel is an impressive discovery that combines faith and science in an unprecedented way.
Could other biblical stories also be confirmed by future archaeological discoveries?
Which is actually nothing special since Assyrian camps and several cities described in the Bible existed. What we see is a great effort on the part of many to try to prove biblical events, but we know that the Bible is too full of paradoxes and anti-scientific content in addition to the grotesque and enormous errors in biology, such as classifying bats as birds, or rabbits as ruminant creatures, or making mistakes and exchanging the names of characters in different passages, or preaching that our race began through a single family (incest), however we do not have compatible DNA. The fact that many things in the Bible really existed such as cities, people, objects or camps is not refuted, but rather the attempt to make everyone go down the throat with everything that is in the Bible as true, even though it has several scientific, geographical, mathematical, logical errors and is often contrary to its own doctrines.
