BNDES will finance R$ 37,5 million to the company Aeris, manufacturer of wind blades in Ceará. The capital will be allocated to the acquisition of industrialized materials of national origin

The National Bank for Economic and Social Development – ​​BNDES will finance a total of R$37,5 million to Aeris, a national company that manufactures wind blades, located in the state of Ceará, in the municipality of Pecém. The capital will be used mainly in the purchase of industrialized materials originating in the country to fulfill the contract for the sale of blades between 2020 and 2022.

According to data from the bank, Brazil has a complete and qualified production chain, capable of meeting the demand for wind turbines, accounting for 64% to 84% of total investment in wind farms. Large wind turbine manufacturers have factories in the Northeast region of Brazil and their machine models are state-of-the-art.

BNDES reported that the power generation capacity of the Brazilian electricity matrix increased by 8.832 megawatts in 2019, of which 5.622 megawatts (64% of total capacity) correspond to projects financed by BNDES. Last year, the bank signed a contract for a wind energy project of 1.164 MW, enough to supply a total of 2,2 million homes.

New wind farms

Brazil installed 38 new wind farms with a total capacity of 744,95 MW in 2019, according to data from ABEEólica's Annual Wind Energy Bulletin. At the end of 2019, there were 620 plants, 15,45 GW of installed wind energy and US$3,45 billion in investments for new projects in the wind energy sector, accounting for 53% of investment in renewable energy in Brazil.

According to the annual report of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), Brazil rose one position in the accumulated ranking of global wind capacity last year and now occupies seventh place. Currently, wind energy is responsible for about 10% of Brazil's total energy generation.
