On a trip to Norway, Leon Aguiar, general director of Idema, was part of the official delegation of the State of RN, composed by the State Secretary for Economic Development, Jaime Calado and by the CEO of Caern, Roberto Linhares, to participate in meetings with renewable energy companies. During the meeting, the directors of the company Scatec, Roah Haugland, manager of Sustainable Businesses and Alex Holmerberg, project manager, presented the specifications of their investment in a new solar plant that promises to generate jobs and income for the state.

Solar power plant will have an installed capacity of 532 MW
The company, which already has shares in Brazilian territory, will install the UFV Mendubim solar plant. The relationship with the RN is that the solar energy plant will be installed in the city of Assú and will have an installed capacity of 532 MW.
The project will be one of the largest ever built by Scatec, which will produce more than 60% of the energy needed by the aluminum industry located in the state of Maranhão. With the start of construction scheduled for March of next year, and activities scheduled for July 2023, investment in the solar plant is approximately R$ 1,6 billion and the expectation is that, during the construction phase alone, more than 1.200 direct and indirect jobs.

During the operating phase of the RN solar power plant, which will last 25 years, the asset management contracts in operation and maintenance, estimate a turnover of R$ 30 million per year.
New Scatec solar plant has already had environmental licensing requested
According to Roah Haugland, Sustainable Business manager, Scatec is looking forward to putting this project into practice in the country. The company had a good meeting with national authorities and heard promising ideas.
Scatec's project promises in advance to generate several jobs. Environmental licensing from Idema has already been requested. According to Leon Aguiar, the company understands the importance of investments and will technically analyze all the demands of the solar plant, complying with the licensing rules, and what the environmental legislation recommends for possible environmental licenses and authorizations for the solar energy project in the RN.
Scatec can build the largest Brazilian solar energy project
According to Senator Jean Paul Prates, RN has the fundamental elements to stay ahead in renewable energies. The senator highlighted that this is a project that has everything to become one of the largest in solar energy in Brazil, and also states that upon receiving the invitation from Odd Magne Ru, the Norwegian ambassador in Brazil, to learn about the structures and projects government, considered it extremely important for the advancement of the productive chain of RN and the country.
Jaime Calado, State Secretary for Economic Development, reinforced that the mission is to attract investment and show the potential of the RN, mainly in the production of solar energy. Jaime says that with the new solar plant it is possible to observe the serious work of Governor Fátima Bezerra.
