The bill aims to end the 6x1 work shift and guarantee a better quality of life for workers and faces strong resistance in the Chamber. Led by Congresswoman Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP), the proposal is supported by the Movement for Life Beyond Work, led by Councilman Rick Azevedo, and has popular support.
What appears to be a battle for dignity in day encounters political resistance.
A proposal that seeks to alleviate the exhausting routine of the 6x1 regime, where workers have only one day of rest after six consecutive days of work, now faces strong opposition from deputies of the Liberal Party (PL).
Presented by federal deputy Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP), this Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) aims to rebalance professional and personal life, but faces significant obstacles in Congress.

Reduction of working hours and the end of 6x1
At the heart of the PEC is the review of the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT), a measure that aims not only to eliminate the 6x1 regime, but also to ensure that workers can dedicate more time to their personal lives and family life.
Hilton presented the proposal on Labor Day recently, reinforcing that the current working hours model “is not compatible with human dignity”.
According to the deputy, current legislation limits the possibilities for workers to enjoy a full and balanced personal life.
“Our Law needs to change”, Hilton declared on her social media, defending a more fair and humane system for everyone.
Life Beyond Work Movement and popular support
This proposal gained strength with the Life Beyond Work (VAT) Movement, led by Rio de Janeiro councilor Rick Azevedo (PSOL), also known as “Rick Azevedo”.
After sharing his own experience with the exhausting journey of working as a pharmacy clerk on social media, Azevedo became an active voice in the cause.
“It’s modern slavery”, he said in a video posted on TikTok, which went viral as it described the harsh reality of working the 6×1 scale.
With the support of over 1,3 million signatures, the VAT petition, entitled “For a Brazil that Goes Beyond Work”, gained prominence on social media.
The councilor's initiative highlights the need for more time for workers to have a good quality of life and, at the same time, spend time with their families, reinforcing the call for an urgent change in work regulations in the country.
Opposition from the PL bench
The resistance of the PL bench is fierce.
Azevedo stated this Thursday (07), on his social networks and based on information from the Análise Política no X profile (former Twitter), that members of former president Jair Bolsonaro's party had tried to block the processing of the PEC, removing it from the agenda and preventing public hearings to discuss the proposal.
“What is going around in the press is true: the PL bench is trying to block our PEC by #fimdaescala6X1. We went personally to each office, but they tried to take the PEC off the agenda and prevent the public hearing”, said councilor Azevedo.
He stressed that, for his part, he remains firm in pressing for the hearing to take place soon.
Hilton and Azevedo's articulation to mobilize support
With 71 signatures of the 171 needed for the PEC to be discussed in the Chamber of Deputies, Hilton and Azevedo have been visiting several offices in search of support.
They argue that the proposal does not aim to reduce productivity, but rather to promote a more humane and dignified work environment for everyone.
“It is a question of dignity and social justice”, reaffirmed Hilton, who sees the PEC as a way to balance work demands with workers' quality of life.
Supporters of the PEC also point to the contrast between the routine of deputies and that of ordinary workers.
While many deputies work from Tuesday to Thursday, thousands of Brazilian workers face the arduous routine of the 6x1 regime, especially in the commerce and services sector.
This discrepancy, according to Hilton and Azevedo, highlights the need for a change that considers the well-being of the worker.
What is at stake for workers?
This fight to end the 6x1 scale and reduce the national working day is not just a legislative issue.
For many, this is a necessary step towards a country that prioritizes the well-being of its workers. In his statements, Azevedo highlighted that, “If we have the support of the PT bench, our fight will be much stronger”.
He called on the public to put pressure on parliamentarians: “Keep holding your MPs accountable — they are employees of the people, not the other way around”.
The PEC, in addition to seeking to make working hours more flexible, aims to change the impact of the 2017 Labor Reform, sanctioned during the Michel Temer (MDB) government, which, according to the proponents of the amendment, increased the precariousness of working conditions by legalizing the 6x1 regime in some areas.
This reform generated heated debates about the limit between productivity and decent working conditions, something that the PEC proposes to reevaluate.
Resistance and the path to the future
Even though there is resistance, parliamentarians and pro-PEC activists believe that the measure will bring more equality in the field of working conditions.
According to Azevedo, ensuring the workers' rights Adequate rest and family time should not be a luxury, but a basic right.
The continuation of the PEC in the Chamber of Deputies now depends on greater mobilization and support from broader benches.
What do you think about the end of the 6×1 scale? Do you believe that other models, such as 4×3, could be the solution to improve workers’ quality of life? Leave your opinion in the comments and participate in this debate!
What is being done for truck drivers who are forced to take time off away from their families, being prevented by the STF from accumulating time off???
I think 5 for 2 would be good.
This is for people to see that the PL is against the people. They never liked us. I hope this collective outbreak passes and this party loses strength from now on.
Definitely need to do away with the 6×1 scale, it's inhumane
Coming from the PSOL, nothing good can be expected. No one is forced to work a schedule in an environment that is not favorable. Opportunities are everywhere, you just have to prepare yourself and look for something better. The country's employers are already paying a high price for this "legal asylum" legislation that exists in this country.
A construction worker who takes on a job on a contract works 10 hours or more, as he is paid for the service delivered and not by the hour.
He said little but he said ****! As if it were easy in this country to simply get another job or another career in the blink of an eye. “You just have to prepare yourself”, what world do you live in???? In what country??? Because in Brazil it is not. Get out of your bubble.
Everything in life has to have a foundation. Most people who work the 6 to 1 scale do so because they earn overtime, which adds a lot to their salary, but overtime is not a salary. When you go back to the normal scale, you lose it. Then the father of the family has to look for a second job, and where does his time with his family go? Let's think about improving the minimum wage, then you could put this conversation on the agenda.
