Let's remember this "icon", manufactured before the author of the article was born. The 180 was produced in 2 models: the RX 180 custon, which is the one mentioned, and the DT 180, a mini-trail. Well, I had both and I can speak for myself. The RX 180 simply STOPPED out of nowhere in a stretch of about 40 km. It would heat up and stop. I had to wait for it to cool down. In addition, the gearbox was very, very bad. The motorcycle was crap. An icon of all the trash that could exist in the world.
The DT 180 was not as bad, but it had the same problems, oddly enough. The country was so closed, so desperately backward that the 180 was the second largest engine capacity in the country, losing only to the CB 400, one of the worst bikes Honda has ever made. I also had one and it was no good. Only later, with the opening of the market in 1990, did imports arrive and things improved. The world's trash heap continued to be here. Honda launched better bikes, such as the 250, 350, 750, but that was it. And Yamaha was just trash, for a change. Even today, the big and best models don't come here. Where's the CB 1100? That's an icon that doesn't land here, as well as other models, such as those with V-engines. We also lost the ENTIRE Yamaha YZ range, one of the best cross bikes in the world. Kawasaki is out of the question and neither are the good Suzuki ones. My generation was left without motorcycles and only later were we able to have and see them. Always with abusive and scorching prices, as they are today. Brazilians have no peace.
I agree that the national motorcycle market in those years was closed and there were very few options... However, I got my A3 license on an RX 180 that was called โRX 180 custonโ and it even had disc brakes on the front wheel!
I had two DT's 180 during college and never had any problems, except that my girlfriends complained about the smell of smoke (2-stroke) in their hair, and I had my right leg tattooed by the exhaust of the DT's 180 Ahhahahaha
Good times and lots of joy!
I also had a DT280, how crazy, I liked riding inside the waterfalls. I really liked it.
*DT180
Stop talking nonsense, my friend. If your RX 180 stopped after 40 km, it's because you were a terrible owner, a terrible motorcyclist and negligent with the maintenance to correct your poor riding. I had an RX 180 for 10 years and I repeat NEVER had a single problem with it. I only changed the oil, filter, spark plug and gears, whenever necessary. Unbeatable and ultra-resistant motorcycle. I sold it to buy a Beetle... the biggest mistake I've ever made.
I confirm everything you said, I had a RX 180, CUSTON for four years without complaining until the spark plug came out of a Beetle, I also exchanged it for a Beetle a year and a half ago.
I rode an RX 180 between 86 and 92, I NEVER had any problems, home/work/college, 100 km daily route, โit was beautiful to see the CBs breathing in the white smokeโ, LOL, especially on the Rio-Niterรณi Bridge.
So, sorry, but your testimony is very personal to you.
Hugs.
There is an article talking about Honda, which monopolized the market by prohibiting any other brand from selling 4-stroke motorcycles under 200 cc in Brazil, that Honda cannibalized the market from 1977 to 1997, and no one could make a motorcycle under 200 CC in Brazil except Honda.
Regarding the bike, you talked a lot of nonsense. The RX 180s were very good, although they were very hard to ride in 2 strokes. I had 1 Dt 180 and 3 RDz with which I rode more than 150 thousand km and I was never left on the street due to any problem with them.
And this Matรฉria bike has nothing to do with the RX 180 proposal of the time.
What do you mean? RX 180 was a Custom. Nothing to do with this bike.
Look!!! Honestly, this bike has nothing to do with the old ones. I lived through that period. I had an RX 180, model year 1983, in 1986. Therefore, the motorcycle had been purchased for 3 years. We used to give each other **** on CB 3s at the time!! We would take the engines apart to do some tuning to gain more horsepower!!! Two-stroke engines were smooth and easy to maintain.!!!!!!!! I miss those times!!! Now, if these bikes have electronic injection, etc., for me they are "Nutella" bikes. We were happy and didn't know it.
Sergio, good morning, man, I agree with your words. There are no others like them. Only those who have had the pleasure of commenting. I have not had the pleasure of riding one, and I still ride one that my father still has to this day. It is very well preserved, but it has never let him down on the road. It has driven 500 km from Tarumรฃ, SP, to Jundiaรญ, SP, 1000 km there and back. It has never let my old man down on the road, and it still exists with him today. He doesn't sell it, he doesn't trade it.
It may have all kinds of technology, but it has nothing to do with the old one.
Forget the engine, that was a custom, this is a naked, completely different styles.
The title does not match the bikes.
Wonderful stylish congratulations
