The Brazilian Northeast appears as a promising area in the production of the energy renewable. Due to its immense potential, especially in distributed generation through sources such as the sun, the region is attracting more and more investors and specialists. In August, a specialized forum will be held to discuss these opportunities and challenges, focusing on best practices and innovations in the sector.

One of the key points will be the debate on the solar energy, which stands out as one of the main methods of generating energy in the region. In addition, the event will address strategies for storing the energy and the efficient operation of solar farms. With so much potential, the Northeast is ready to lead a new era in the production of renewable energy.

Importance of energy in the northeast region

The Northeast region of Brazil has played a fundamental role in ensuring that the country is close to reaching the historic mark of 30 GW of installed power in 2024. According to data from National Electric System Operator (ONS), Brazil reached new records in solar energy generation in June. On June 28th and 29th, 9.598 MW and 9.960 MW were recorded, respectively, in the Northeast subsystem. The largest of these brands corresponded to 84,5% of the energy demand in the region at that time. According to the ONS, there were eight records in solar generation in 2024 alone, with six in the Northeast subsystem and two in the National Interconnected System (SIN), in January and March.

Solar energy generation in the northeast

In the form of distributed generation (GD), the Northeast region is currently responsible for 5,8 GW of installed power, with Pernambuco as the third most contributing state, according to the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL). Information from the agency also indicates that there are 21.224 photovoltaic plants installed in Brazil, with another 2.641.323 solar generation units in the DG modality. This totals an installed electrical energy generation capacity of 43,6 GW, approximately 18,7% of the country's total, making solar energy the second largest source of energy in Brazil in terms of installed power.

Advances in energy storage

A Bahia recently announced the installation of the first lithium factory in Latin America, a significant development that will contribute to the lithium market energy storage, one of the main opportunities for the country in the coming years. This topic will also be one of the highlights of the GD Northeast Forum. On August 07th and 08th, 2024, the Centro de Eventos Recife, in Recife–PE, will host the 25th edition of the GD Nordeste Forum. The event will feature a diverse program, covering topics such as energy storage, operation and maintenance of solar parks in DG, financing lines and the region's potential for clean energy production through micro and minigeneration.
