The Brazilian Energy Sector Continues To Expand, With New Investments And Advances In Electric Infrastructure. In The First Two Months Of 2025, The Energy Matrix Registered Significant Growth, Reflecting The Increase In Installed Capacity In The Country.

The electricity generation matrix in Brazil grew 1,613.70 megawatts (MW), or 1.6 gigawatt (GW), in the first two months of 2025.

The data comes from the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel). 1 GW Can Supply Approximately 500,000 Households.

Growth Of The Electric Matrix In February

In February, the installed capacity increased by 165.31 MW with the commissioning of 10 new power plants. Of this total, five are wind farms, which added 64.20 MW.

Total Capacity Of The Electric System

On March 5, the total generating capacity monitored by Aneel reached 209,904.9 MW. The data comes from Aneel’s Generation Information System (SIGA), updated daily.

Of this total, 85.02% corresponds to renewable plants, such as hydropower, wind, and solar.

The expansion of the electric matrix occurs in all regions of the country, with new plants being released in 10 states throughout the first two months.

The increase in supply reinforces the security of supply and expands the diversity of the Brazilian electric matrix.

Detailed information on the expansion of the electric matrix is available on the RALIE panel from Aneel. The tool allows monitoring energy supply growth with filters by region, year, and type of source.

The information is updated monthly based on field inspections and monitoring reports.
