Tool was essential to maintain the standard of Ocyan's operations during the pandemic
Rio de Janeiro, August 04, 2020 –With the implementation of remote work for all onshore members (on land) during the new Coronavirus pandemic, Ocyan maintained real-time monitoring of its asset fleet through SMART (Real Time Advanced Monitoring System) technology. The system, which provides for the intensive use of artificial intelligence from the monitoring of integrated data and images generated by cameras, was already available in its digital version with computer access even before this period, but has become fundamental in times of social distancing. and the possibility of remotely monitoring the operations of the company's Drilling assets.
The great advantage of the tool is that the data can be accessed on portable computers, not requiring the physical presence of the Member in the control rooms at the company's base in Macaé (RJ). To give you an idea, Ocyan SMART has tripled its number of accesses since mid-March and is already preparing a version available for smartphones. The use of technology reinforces safety with our members while maintaining the standard of our operations.

“Before social isolation, remote access to data generated from the Decision Support Center (CSD) was already possible, but it has only been put to the test in fact now that operators are working from their homes. And the program passed the test, even with all information security rules preserved. The company will come out of this pandemic period strengthened because all activities continue normally – from the operation of rigs and platforms to support activities on land”, explains Rodrigo Chamusca, responsible for Technology and Innovation at Ocyan’s Drilling Business Unit.

Ocyan SMART is the first integrated system for monitoring rig activities in Brazil to cover the six dimensions foreseen, allowing the grouping of data that were previously dispersed in separate supervisory systems. Today, the company integrates and makes available data related to drilling, well control, power management, dynamic positioning, in addition to the platforms' closed-circuit TV cameras. BOP (Blowout Preventer) Monitoring should be added to the scope of Ocyan SMART in August this year, which demonstrates the company's pioneering spirit in the search for technological and innovative solutions.
SMART's work, even with remote access, also contributed to increasing the overall productivity of operations. The company has also kept its recordable incident rate at zero so far in 2020.
Hits grew
Access to SMART tripled during this period of social isolation, further expanding the application of data to enhance the operation's uptime. “Before the pandemic, an average of 100 people accessed information each week. Now, the number jumped to 300. And no extra investment was necessary, as Ocyan had already planned this jump since the creation of the project. Later this year, we intend to allow access via cell phone”, explains Chamusca. According to him, the crisis room will remain active even with remote access facilities. “We think it's important to maintain the crisis room for future decision-making”, he concludes.
