Prosub delivers the first submarine to the Brazilian Navy. The project was developed by Itaguaí Construções Navais (ICN).
The group's subsidiaries Novonor, ODT and Naval Group, companies that form Itaguaí Construções Navais (ICN), have just delivered the first submarine of the Submarine Development Program (Prosub) to the Brazilian Navy. Called Riachuelo (S40), the equipment is the first Brazilian Navy submarine built in the country with the participation of companies from the group. O Riachuelo S-40 was developed with technologies that are the result of a partnership between Brazil and France.
Riachuelo S-40 by Itaguaí Construções Navais (ICN) is the most important delivery ever made
The event took place last week and was attended by representatives of the largest engineering company in Brazil, which is responsible for developing the entire infrastructure that makes the prosub possible, the OEC.
The ceremony was marked by the signing of the document commemorating the arrival of the Riachuelo S-40, from Itaguaí Construções Navais (ICN), to the Brazilian Navy. In addition, it also demonstrates the completion of a rigorous calendar of vehicle acceptance tests, both at sea and in port, and the start of the equipment warranty period.

This is considered one of the most important deliveries ever made in the military naval construction in Brazil and marks an essential step towards the development of the first Conventionally Armed Submarine of the Brazilian Navy powered by Nuclear Propulsion, called Almirante Álvaro Alberto.
More than 30 jobs are generated at Prosub
OEC was chosen for the prosub due to its extensive experience in highly complex projects. One of the major engineering obstacles solved by the company is the development of the naval base and shipyard, which occupy an area of 900 square projects, 750 of which are over water.
Access to the complex is via an 850-meter-long tunnel excavated in the rock. In total, 30 direct and indirect jobs were generated.
OEC pronounces on the delivery of the Riachuelo S-40 to the Brazilian Navy
According to the president of the OEC, Maurício Cruz Lopes, when the development of the Riachuelo S-40 is completed, Brazil will be part of a group of only six countries with the capacity and technology to develop this type of equipment.
But presenting the Riachuelo S-40, by Itaguaí Construções Navais (ICN), is already a great pride and an indescribable emotion for composing this great story.
