Oil and Gas Industry trains young people in the offshore market through a three-month learning path, focusing on quality and safety.
On February 15, 2023, in partnership with big names in the sector, Equinor and SBM Offshore, UnIBP launched the bold 'Offshore of the Future' program. This program was created with the purpose of boosting the training of young talents to act effectively in the offshore market of oil and gas. In just three months, this learning path offers quality and safety, crucial aspects in these challenging environments. The course is available free of charge, standing out as one of the most promising initiatives by the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas (IBP).
Mining and Exploration: Connecting Industries and Challenging Boundaries
The synergy between the sector of mining and the oil and gas industry becomes evident with each new mineral exploration project. The growing demand for leaders trained in ESG (Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance) reflects the importance of sustainability in these areas. According to the report released in June 2024, the extractive industry faces significant challenges, but is determined to integrate technology and sustainable practices into its processes.
Experts predict that by 2025 the market will demand a balanced approach between automation and environmental responsibility. This reflects a desire to make operations more efficient while reducing environmental impact. In this way, qualified professionals from both sectors are coming together to promote innovative solutions, especially in clean and renewable energy projects.

With advances in exploration technologies, both in mining and in the oil and gas sector, the focus has been on reducing costs and maximizing profits in a responsible manner. The strategies adopted by these industries are influenced by the need to adapt to ensure competitiveness in increasingly demanding global scenarios.
The Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM), for example, announced in September 2023 an action plan that foresees investment in artificial intelligence and automation, aligning with the practices adopted by the oil and gas industry. The results of this integration are already beginning to be reflected in a more sustainable and promising market.
As these industries evolve, mining remains at the forefront, embracing innovations that are critical to sustainable growth. In a context where natural resources are vital to industrial progress, the intersection between these sectors offers an encouraging vision for the future.
Paving the Way for the Oil and Gas Industry
The three-month innovative program will take place in the vibrant city of Rio de Janeiro and is designed to accommodate an initial class of up to 16 enthusiastic students. Applications will be accepted from tomorrow, Tuesday, February 11, until April 4. Interested candidates should visit the UnIBP website: https://www.unibp.com.br/ to complete the application process. This program is a great opportunity for those who wish to enter the Oil and Gas sector, especially with the growing demand for offshore market.
To join, candidates must meet some technical requirements, such as being at least 18 years old and having completed technical education in specific areas, such as mechanics, electrical, electronics, chemistry, O&G or automation. In addition, it is necessary to have a valid CFT registration, with due proof of registration in an institution recognized and accredited by the MEC. This technical qualification aims to prepare qualified professionals who will be able to face the challenges of the Oil and Gas Industry.
Learning Path and Program Requirements
During this training period, students will have the privilege of participating in a comprehensive learning path, consisting of three theoretical modules, held at IBP facilities, and one practical module, presented at the renowned Pipeline Technology Center (CTDUT). In this way, the program aims to provide in-depth knowledge about the Oil and Gas sector. To support students during their training, a monthly stipend of R$1.400,00 will be offered.
The course has a total workload of 353 hours, during which students will participate in monitored activities, complemented by an individual performance assessment. The selection process will be structured in multiple stages, including a knowledge test that will assess, among other criteria, intermediate proficiency in the English language. Participants selected for this stage will be notified starting April 22, with interviews beginning on April 28.
Opportunities in the Offshore Market
Announcement of successful candidates will be made on May 30, while classes are scheduled to begin on June 16. Expectations are high, aiming not only to qualify participants but also to help them gain significant market share. UnIBP works in collaboration with several leading companies to align the profile of professionals with the pressing needs of the oil and gas chain, consolidating connections that create new opportunities.
According to Karen Cubas, executive manager of UnIBP, the initiative is of great local value and contributes significantly to the development of society through business opportunities and initiatives. The partnership with IBP and SBM Offshore emerges as a way to make a positive impact on the Oil and Gas sector in Brazil. In addition, recognizing the need for qualified professionals strengthens both the company and the value chain, and is a powerful way to qualify the workforce.
Bridge to the Future of Qualified Professionals
Victor Alves, specialist in training and people development and leader of Corporate University of Equinor in Brazil, expresses its satisfaction in launching this innovative program together with the IBP Corporate University (UnIBP), the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas (IBP) and Equinor. The enthusiasm is shared by Julien Dainotto, HR Manager of SBM Offshore in Brazil, who reinforces the belief in awakening the potential of the new generation of Brazilian talents, interested in joining the promising Oil and Gas industry.
In-person classes will take place Monday through Friday, from 09 a.m. to 18 p.m., covering a wide range of topics. Students will revisit fundamental concepts in chemistry, physics, and mathematics, as well as gain knowledge about technical and regulatory aspects of the oil and gas industry. Skills such as quality, safety, environment, and health will also be covered, with a particular focus on operational practices in the offshore environment. Participants will have access to innovative teaching methods, such as the PBL (Problem-Based Learning) methodology, and will be able to network with experts from the Oil and Gas sector.
CTDUT's cutting-edge structure, developed in partnership between Petrobras, Transpetro and the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-RJ), will provide an exceptional learning space for qualification and training on a large scale.
