A group formed by six students from Poli-UFRJ – five from Petroleum Engineering and one from Mechanical Engineering – and one from the Economics course at UFRJ received the ‘Student Chapter Excellence Award’ from the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). This is the sixth time a team from UFRJ has received the award. This competition gathered more than 120 teams from around the world.

The evaluation was based on technical events held in 2019, analyzing the relevance of each for both members, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as for the external community. Among the events were lectures and the academic week of oil and gas, the SPETRO, organized by the UFRJ Petroleum League and the SPE/UFRJ Student Chapter, in partnership with the course students.

“The SPE award represents for the team a sense of duty fulfilled with the highest possible excellence. They work hard throughout the year to disseminate knowledge and promote academia-industry interaction, which is so important for the education of Petroleum Engineering students. Undoubtedly, this award serves as an incentive for students to develop even more new projects and will have an impact on each of their academic and professional trajectories,” evaluates Juliana Baioco, a professor in the Petroleum Engineering course at Poli-UFRJ and responsible for leading the students in this project with the SPE.
