BioGLP is obtained from a renewable source, there is no risk of harm to the environment or production depletion. Since 2017, the European continent and the United States have been selling small quantities of the product.

University of São Paulo (USP) signed a cooperation agreement with Copa Energia. The University will help the group, owner of the Copagaz and Liquigás brands, to develop a BioGLP project over the next four years. The leader in gas supply in Brazil also has another project with the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul.

Based on an investment of approximately R$ 600 by Copa Energia, the partnership with the University of São Paulo (USP) will train a workforce in the sector for a graduate student, a master's student and a doctoral student, in addition to the coordinator and deputy - research coordinator.

“We believe in the academy as an important partner for the development of research and technologies that help to find the best solution for extracting BioGLP, a topic that is still in its infancy in the world and much needed for a cleaner energy transition compared to other sources, such as coal”, says Pedro Turqueto, strategy and market vice-president at Copa Energia.

BioGLP developed by USP emits up to 80% less carbon in combustion than that of fossil origin

BioGLP is a gaseous fuel of renewable origin obtained from the treatment of garbage, sugarcane bagasse and vegetable oil, for example. Renewable gas has the same performance as the currently commercialized Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), popularly known as cooking gas.

In chemical terms, BioGLP performs the same function compared to the traditional one. The difference is sustainability, since it emits up to 80% less carbon in combustion than fossil fuels. As it is obtained from a renewable source, there is no risk of harm to the environment or of production depletion. Since 2017, the European continent and the United States have been selling small quantities of the product.

“We started the conversation with USP at the beginning of 2021, now we understand the documentation process and we hope, soon, to close more partnerships with universities at an even greater speed”, says Turqueto.

According to the executive, in the project with UFMS, there is development, for example, of the pilot project carried out with the use of LPG to generate energy in the covid hygiene ward of the Health professionals of the HU - University Hospital of the UFMS, during the peak of cases, and the project in the study phase for use of LPG for energy generation in fish farming, with a focus on agribusiness.

Use of gas (CNG or Biomethane) as fuel came to save the consumer's pocket and becomes the best alternative to replace gasoline and diesel in light and heavy vehicles, in addition to reducing pollution

The use of gas (CNG or Biomethane) as fuel in light and heavy vehicles is one of the solutions found as an alternative to the use of gasoline and diesel in order to reduce pollution and also for those who want to ease their pockets with the constant skyrocketing prices. of fuels.

In Rio de Janeiro, the use of CNG in passenger vehicles is common, being a solution based on the cost-benefit ratio of the product and which currently helps combat GHGs (greenhouse gases).

Through Environmental Governance (ESG), companies have been demanding an “environmentally correct” behavior from the market. Thinking about it, as an alternative to diesel and gasoline, it is possible to observe some trucks and agricultural machines powered by gas. This technology, which uses Otto cycle engines, allows the use of both CNG (fossil fuel, however, less polluting) and Biomethane (gas obtained by anaerobic fermentation of organic material). Read the full article HERE.
