The project intends to make the highways cleaner in terms of carbon dioxide emissions.
The state of Paraná is counting on a pilot project with the intention of bringing the supply of natural gas to the interior of more than 123 km. The project is being carried out in partnership with two institutions, to NEOgás e to Compagas. With regard to the same, it is estimated that the state of Paraná will become one of the first in the southern region, which also includes Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, in terms of the complete gas supply cycle via land from a chain.
Compagas' Technical-Commercial Director, Rafael Longo, highlighted that he is feeling positive about the initiative and should bring to users and heavy transport the viability of using natural gas in order to exponentially reduce the emission of carbon dioxide in the environment. Overall, with the use of new applied technologies, it is estimated that the reduction of CO₂ in the environment should be at least 23%. Natural gas, according to him, is proving to be a more viable alternative to the use of diesel.
How will the Compagas and NEOgás natural gas project in the state of Paraná work?
According to Neogas' press conference with Compagas, the initiative will last for at least 30 days, where the natural gas will be compressed by Compagas and sent through the Ponta Grossa station. Subsequently, it will have to be transferred over 130 km to reach the city of Arapoti. This transport will be necessary to supply the BO Paper industry. A Good Paper receives natural gas on a large scale to carry out its industrial processes.

Project indicators and what is expected from it in the economy
NEOgás stated that one of the objectives will be to measure the performance of Scania, a category of truck, during the gas transport process. In this way, professionals should analyze what the characteristics of the vehicle are, how it performs on the road and what speeds it can travel safely. The use of the Scania truck is intended to align the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions with the reduction of costs issued by the institution.
It is not only in the state of Paraná that to Neogás has become a leader in the sector, as well as throughout Brazil when it comes to GCN. In all, it is estimated that they send more than 5 million kilometers of gas per year and, according to Neumayer, it is this category of gas that allows the sustainability of the heaviest trucks on all highways, making them more viable for fauna and flora. The project's objectives are quite ambitious and estimate that in a short time, if the results are positive, all transport vehicles will use natural gas to transport cargo.
When comparing the use of natural gas to diesel, it is worth mentioning that the reduction of NOx (nitrogen oxides) is 90% while the reduction of heavy metals disposed in the environment reaches approximately 85%. Therefore, it can be said that the effects of using cleaner fuels can be observed in the short term and are a good way for the country to achieve its climate goals according to the Climate Summit by the year 2030.
