According to Petrobras, the hibernation of platforms is part of its plan to face the crisis generated by the new coronavirus and, states that there will be no layoffs in these cases.

The number of employees to be transferred to the refineries exceeds 357, but not all of them can be transferred, since some have joined the voluntary resignation program, some are on leave and others will remain in the units that will be paralyzed.

Hibernating a platform is a process in which the units are kept practically inactive, but not completely turned off for safety reasons.

Petrobras' human resources department informed the Single Federation of Oil Workers (FUP) that all of the group's refineries will receive personnel from the deactivated platforms, with the exception of the shale industrialization unit, SIX, installed in Paraná.

According to Petrobras, the resumption of production in hibernated fields will still be defined. Quite possibly the platforms would resume activities when under the direction of a new investor.

The 49 paralyzed production units are spread across four basins – Campos, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte and Sergipe-Alagoas. In Bahia and Espírito Santo, there will be changes in activities and processes.

The platforms and probes are installed in fields that were no longer of interest to Petrobras and, therefore, are on the company's divestment list.
