CEO of Compagás highlights that the cost reduction with the agreement with Petrobras will make natural gas more competitive for the industry

Petrobras and Compagas recently announced the signing of new contracts for the supply of natural gas, valued at approximately R$6,4 billion. These agreements were established as a result of a public call made by the distributor from Paraná in the first quarter and will be effective from 2024 to 2034, according to the website Petronotícias.

Cost reduction for the industry

Rafael Lamastra Jr., CEO of Compagas, highlighted that the new contracts with Petrobras include a significant reduction, around 10%, in the cost of the gas molecule, scheduled to come into effect from January next year. This reduction will be reflected in tariffs, making natural gas more competitive for users, especially for industry. The executive stated: “With this reduction being transferred to the tariff, we will make natural gas more competitive for our users, especially for industry.”

In addition to cost reduction, Compagas also negotiated contractual conditions with Petrobras that diversify the indexes used. With these new agreements, approximately 20% of Compagas' supply portfolio will be indexed to the Henry Hub, a reference indicator in the US gas market.

Benefits for industry and local economy with Petrobras contract

These new contracts represent an important step towards making natural gas an even more attractive choice for industry and other consumers in Curitiba and region. By reducing costs and diversifying indexes, Compagas seeks to provide stability and competitiveness in an energy market in constant transformation.

In addition, these agreements can have a positive impact on the state's economy as a whole, as cost reductions can attract investment and boost economic growth.

Secure energy supply

Petrobras, as a reliable supplier of natural gas, will continue to play a key role in providing energy to the state of Paraná. These contracts reinforce the longstanding partnership between Petrobras and Compagas, ensuring a safe and efficient supply of natural gas to the region.
