Multinational Tenaris signs a contract with Petrobras to provide coating services in the Santos Basin.

Tenaris announced last Wednesday, (28/02), a new milestone in its partnership with Petrobras. The signed contract focuses on providing coating services for the Mero 4 production system, located in pre-salt of the Santos Basin.

Tenaris and Petrobras advance in the development of Pre-Salt in the Santos Basin

According to recent information, Tenaris will supply 81 kilometers of thermal insulation coating for risers and flow lines, essential for the Mero 4 production system.

This project not only reinforces Tenaris' position as an innovative company in the sector, but also highlights the importance of the Santos Basin as a nerve center for the Brazilian oil industry.

The service qualification process is expected to take place throughout 2024, with deliveries scheduled for the following year.

The complexity of the project is evident, as once the coating is completed, the pipelines will go to Espírito Santo, where the coiling and assembly processes will be carried out before the final offshore installation.

The Mero field, operated by a consortium led by Petrobras and made up of giants such as Shell, TotalEnergies, CNODC and CNOOC, is the third largest in the pre-salt region.

The Mero 4 system, specifically, will have 15 wells interconnected to the FPSO Alexandre de Gusmão, with capacity to process up to 180 thousand barrels per day.

The impact of the new contract on the Brazilian market

This contract marks the fourth major thermal coating project carried out by Tenaris in Brazil in five years, following in the footsteps of Bacalhau, Búzios V and Mero 3.

Tenaris' growing presence in the sector, combined with its global supply capacity, consolidates its position as a key partner in pre-salt exploration.

Renato Catallini, president of Tenaris in Brazil, expressed the company's commitment to contributing to the sustainable development of the region.

“We are committed to offering value-added solutions that meet the demands of one of the most challenging exploration and production environments in the world,” reveals Catallini.
