This natural gas supply contract signed by Petrobras in partnership with Copergás will start in December 2024
Petrobras, a giant in the energy sector, has just secured an important position in the natural gas market in Brazil. In a statement released on Monday, the state-owned company announced the signing of a new contract for the purchase and sale of natural gas with Companhia de Gás de Pernambuco (Copergás). The agreement, the result of Public Call No. 003/2022, will be in effect from January 2024 to December 2034, and is estimated at BRL 6,7 billion, according to the website Petronews.
Copergás carried out the Public Call for the purpose of acquiring the natural gas needed to serve the regulated market in its concession area, located in the state of Pernambuco. With the signed contract, Petrobras guarantees a significant share of this market, strengthening the commercial partnership between the two companies.
This new contract with Copergás is proof of the reliability and security maintained under competitive commercial conditions, especially at a time of market opening and diversification of natural gas supplies. Petrobras celebrates this achievement as an important milestone in its expansion and consolidation strategy as one of the main suppliers of natural gas in the country.

Petrobras at full steam
It is worth mentioning that this is not the only recent move by Petrobras in the natural gas sector. At last week, the state-owned company announced the signing of two contracts for the purchase and sale of natural gas with Companhia de Gás de Santa Catarina (SCGÁS). These contracts, which will be in effect from January 2024 and 2026, respectively, and end in December 2034, are valued at approximately R$7,6 billion.
These contracts reinforce Petrobras' commitment to supply the growing demand for natural gas in Brazil, an extremely important resource for several sectors of the economy, including industry, commerce and services. The company has invested in infrastructure and technology to expand its gas production, transportation and distribution capacity, ensuring a reliable and safe supply.
The natural gas market and Petrobras' contribution
In addition, the contracts signed by Petrobras contribute to the consolidation of the natural gas market, stimulating healthy competition and driving the sector's development. With a strategic approach, the state-owned company seeks to diversify its operations and establish solid commercial partnerships, as is the case with Copergás and SCGÁS.
The signing of this BRL 6,7 billion contract between Petrobras and Copergás represents a milestone for the natural gas industry in Brazil, boosting economic development and energy supply for the population of Pernambuco.
