Petrobras reached BRL 100 million in voluntary actions to support society in facing the Covid-19 pandemic

Petrobras reported yesterday, October 19, that it completed the delivery of 200 cylinders of oxygen to the Secretary of State for Health in São Paulo on Monday. With this, the oil company completes the mark of 2,2 cylinders of oxygen donated to 12 state health departments in the country, ending one of its initiatives to contribute to society in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Since March, the state secretariats of Alagoas, Amazonas, Bahia, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul and Sergipe, in addition to São Paulo, have received the equipment for use in public hospitals . Petrobras' role was through the purchase of cylinders, supply of oxygen and delivery to the states, which have the company's operations units.

In addition to donating cylinders, Petrobras contributed to oxygen production plants

“Petrobras has acted by integrating efforts with civil society, public authorities and the private sector, helping society in this difficult time of the pandemic. We remain committed to fulfilling our social role, sensitive to the demands of the communities where we operate”, says the executive manager of Social Responsibility at Petrobras, Olinta Cardoso.

In addition to donating cylinders, Petrobras contributed with oxygen production plants. In February of this year, the company joined the “Juntos pelo Amazonas” initiative, together with other companies, for the donation of a plant in Manaus.

For the other states, approximately R$ 10 million were invested in the purchase of 11 micro oxygen plants, all of which have already been delivered. Each piece of equipment has the capacity to produce 25 m³ per hour, a volume that can serve 100 beds, 21 of which are in the ICU, and which represents up to 80% of a hospital's consumption, depending on the size of the unit. The choice of the hospital that received the installation of the micro plant was made by each State Department of Health.

Since last year, the amount allocated by Petrobras for a series of voluntary actions to support society in facing the Covid-19 pandemic has reached R$ 100 million. This year, in addition to delivering cylinders and micro oxygen plants, basic food baskets were distributed to families in situations of social vulnerability. Part of the amount approved for carrying out these actions comes from resources recovered by the company in a leniency agreement.
