After the resignation of the president of Petrobras, tempers are running high and Bolsonaro calls for an investigation into fuel prices

This week started in a hot mood on the national scene with the announcement of the resignation of José Mauro Coelho as president of Petrobras. Fernando Borges took over as interim temporarily, but tempers were not calmed down and the president of the republic, Jair Bolsonaro, requests an investigation of the International Price Parity Policy carried out by the state-owned company through a CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry). The objective would be to investigate the company's management regarding the latest adjustments in fuel prices.

Arthur Lira, current president of the Chamber of Deputies, declared that he is also in favor of the investigation and that the signatures for opening an investigation are already being collected. In addition, the Federal Supreme Court has already asked Petrobras for clarifications regarding the most recent readjustment made. Learn more about these analyzes in today's article.

Experts point out that Bolsonaro could insist on the argument that he did what he could for fuel prices instead of asking for the opening of Petrobras' CPI, which may not result in great achievements | Playback – YouTube: Joven Pan 3 in 1

During the Jovem Pan debate, some experts claim that the CPI may not have resulted in any result and would be a political move

The debate promoted among specialists, by Jovem Pan, brought opinions about Bolsonaro's insistence on seeking the CPI of Petrobras. Some claimed that this investigation could be futile and could be a political move by the government to not maintain its negative image in the face of rising fuel prices.

However, others still stated that it would have been more worthwhile for Bolsonaro to have reinforced his speech that the government did everything in its power to hold prices down, than to request the opening of a CPI. With the insistence on the investigation, according to experts, the president would be opening a pretext for the opposition to judge him as having some responsibility for the fuel readjustment.

Bolsonaro nominated the directors of the state company for the position, but even so, after the constant increases in fuel prices, he wants the investigation by the CPI

In a report to one of his supporters this Tuesday (21), Bolsonaro pointed out that he is in favor of a CPI to investigate the leaders of Petrobras. According to him, the increase in fuel prices is an abuse and should be analyzed by a commission.

“Leader Altineu has already submitted a request for a CPI, by the Liberal Party. The parties are each with their conviction, leaders will talk to their deputies to support this request or not. And CPI is legal and normal formatting made by any deputy or any party "

In addition, the top of the federal government seeks to curb the increase in profits and dividends obtained by the state-owned company and its main shareholders at a time of inflation that we are experiencing. Thus, Petrobras is expected to hold the readjustments or justify them.

Senate President Seeks Alternative Proposal to Curb Fuel Price Readjustments Based on Petrobras Dividends

On Tuesday (21) there was a meeting with the main leaders of the benches, in order to discuss the opening and organization for the Petrobras CPI. Arthur Lira made moves in favor of Petrobras' CPI, while Senator Rodrigo Pacheco, who was also present, put a new proposal on the table.

This proposal would aim to use, among other sources, the dividends obtained from the state-owned company, of which the Union is the largest shareholder, to create a stabilization account to cushion the impact of variability in fuel prices. However, this scenario will still yield a great battle. We look forward to the next chapters.
