The so-called Stage 4 of Petrobras' fuel exploration campaign in the Santos Basin region is scheduled for the year 2023 and will contribute to the oil and natural gas sector with strong job opportunities and an increase in demand for support vessels.

The oil and natural gas company Petrobras has strong expectations regarding the future of the exploration campaign for fuels in the Santos Basin region, located in southeastern Brazil. This, because Stage 4 of production in the fields of Búzios, Sururu, Sépia, Atapu, Mero, Uirapuru, Três Marias, Sagitário, Aram and Tupi, will boost the demand for support vessels and the generation of jobs on the national scene.

Stage 4 of Petrobras' fuel exploration campaign in the Santos Basin will be a strong driver of the Brazilian oil and natural gas sector

The company Petrobras is preparing a new wave of investments in oil and natural gas exploration in the Santos Basin and, consequently, there will be an increase in job opportunities in the national sector.

In 2023, the company will begin its new phase of the exploration campaign in the region, Stage 4, which will feature projects in the fields of Búzios, Sururu, Sépia, Atapu, Mero, Uirapuru, Três Marias, Sagitário, Aram and Tupi, all located in the Southeast region of Brazil.

At the beginning of 2023, the new phase of the exploration campaign in the Santos Basin will kick off, with the implementation of the Mero — Recovery Factor (Mero FR) project. The other oil and natural gas fields will be explored by the end of 2028, with the completion of Stage 4 by Petrobras.

As the platforms come into operation, a total of more than 2,2 outsourced jobs should be created, contributing to job creation in Brazil.

Among these numbers of job creation in the country, 1.494 vacancies will be for work in chartered FPSOs and 720 in own FPSOs, according to the data presented by Petrobras in the Environmental Impact Report (Rima) of Stage 4.

The 13 projects that make up Stage 4 will be Petrobras' largest and will have around 185 wells, totaling an estimated average production of 133 cubic meters per day of oil and around 14,5 million cubic meters per day of natural gas.

Demand for support vessels will be strongly boosted with Stage 4 of the Santos Basin exploration campaign in 2023

With the development of 13 new oil exploration projects, fuels in the Búzios, Sururu, Sépia, Atapu, Mero, Uirapuru, Três Marias, Sagitário, Aram and Tupi fields, Petrobras expects to invest heavily in maintenance and safety services for its vessels.

In this way, there will be a strong boost in demand for support vessels to ensure more operational quality on the FPSO platforms of the Brazilian state-owned company in the Santos Basin.

In addition, according to company data, the PSV type vessel, used to transport heavy loads, will be the most used to service activities in the coming years (2024 and 2029).

Support posts will also be used next to the support ships, all interconnected, such as ports, airports, administrative centers, waste disposal areas, oil receiving terminals, gas treatment units, export gas pipelines.

In this way, Petrobras will continue to contribute to the growth of the oil and natural gas sector in Brazil, while expanding its production and exploration of new fuel areas in the Santos Basin.
