Petrobras recorded two oil spills on platforms in Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo that were not communicated to the market.
According to Ibama, there were failures in containing damage caused by two oil spills at sea this year, involving two Petrobras platforms. One of the spills occurred in February on platform P-58, 85 kilometers off the coast of Espírito Santo and the other occurred on platform P-53, located in Arraial do Cabo, in Rio de Janeiro. This week there were rumors that the state company would be privatized, the government denied the misunderstanding and stated that there is no intention of privatizing the company.
In the leak that occurred on the platform P-53, the state-owned oil company hid the oil spill, failing to communicate it to the market and reporting to the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources, a leaked volume much lower than what actually occurred.

Ibama claims that in both occurrences there were conditions for collecting the spilled oil, which would not have happened. Faults have been omitted. In recent days, the agency's technical staff communicated what happened to the Ministry of the Environment (MMA).
According to what was reported by Ibama to the ministry, an oil spill occurred on the P-53 on March 25 of this year. Initially, the leaked volume reported by the state-owned company was 1,7 thousand liters. Afterwards, the calculated volume reached 122 liters, according to information from Ibama.
An investigation report on the accident records that the oil containment and collection action was only put into practice two days after the accident.
In this case, no announcement to the market was made by Petrobras. The publicly traded state company needs to inform its shareholders about relevant facts, as well as the company did in the accident involving the P-58 platform, in Espírito Santo.
The statement was released on the same day, with information that the leaked volume was initially estimated at 188 liters.
The leak on the P-58, on February 23 of this year, generated an oil slick that extended for 2,4 kilometers. Petrobras even informed that there was no collection of the leaked oil, which would have evaporated.
