Petrobras informed that the operation was closed in the amount of 177 million reais for a period of 10 years, extendable for the same period.
Petrobras informed this Thursday, November 21, that it leased the Fafens (nitrogen fertilizer factories) in Sergipe and Bahia to the Unigel Group, which will have control of the units for a period of ten years, renewable for another ten. In 2020, Petrobras' poles in deep and ultra-deep waters will be 88% exploration and production.
In addition to the factories, the lease includes the ammonia and urea maritime terminals at the Port of Aratu, in Bahia. The deal involves R$ 177 million. The company sought alternatives and studied the best economic and cost conditions for transferring the facilities to the future operator of the factories.

The company recalls that the process for leasing the Fafens followed the rites of Federal Law 13.303/2016 (State-Owned Companies Law) and in its Regulation of Tenders and Contracts.
“This operation is in line with the optimization of the portfolio and the improvement of the company's capital allocation, aiming at generating value for our shareholders”, says the company.
According to Anelise Lara, director of Refining and Natural Gas, leasing the units will allow the fertilizer factories, which were dormant, to start operating again, generating new jobs and attracting investments to the states of Bahia and Sergipe.

“Our strategic planning concentrates investments in the production of oil and gas in Brazil. By focusing on the company's main activities, we are also making room for new companies to emerge and start investing in new segments. This will bring benefits to both Bahia and Sergipe, as it opens up new prospects for local economies. The expectation is that everyone involved will benefit from the business”, explained Anelise.
Fafen-BA is a nitrogen fertilizer unit with a total urea production capacity of 1.300 t/day. It also sells ammonia, carbon dioxide and automotive liquid reducing agent (Arla 32).
The Sergipe unit has a total urea production capacity of 1.800 t/day. It also markets ammonia, carbon dioxide and ammonium sulfate (also used as a fertilizer).
