Construction of the Comperj refinery was halted in 2015, amidst unfolding corruption scandals
It was opened last Tuesday (19/7) by the Brazilian state-owned Petrobras, a formal consultation with the market, to assess the interest of companies in acquiring land in the Petrochemical Complex of Rio de Janeiro (Comperj), owned by the oil company in Itaboraí (RJ).
Of a total terraced area of about 3 km², the state-owned company has 2,1 km² available for potential negotiation and informs that from the expressions of interest, the company will evaluate the models with the greatest potential for the supply of available land.
Petrobras is committed to the GasLub Hub in the region, where it will receive the Integrated Route 3 Project. The construction involves a gas pipeline and processing infrastructure with a capacity for 21 million m³/day of natural gas from the Santos Basin pre-salt layer.

In addition to the Rota 3 Project, Petrobras plans to build a thermoelectric plant in the region and to integrate the GasLub Polo assets to the Reduc refinery, in Duque de Caxias (RJ), for the production of basic lubricating oils and fuels.
Remembering Comperj was one of the greatest symbols of waste of resources and corruption in the history of the state-owned company.
Remembering the tragic history of Comperj
Comperj, which was initially conceived as a petrochemical complex, later became a refining project.
Initially, Petrobras' plan was to build two trains of 165 thousand barrels/day each, but the project was abandoned.
Unfortunately, the refinery was abandoned with more than 80% of the work completed and having already absorbed investments of more than US$ 13 billion. Unrecoverable money.
The construction of the Comperj refinery was interrupted in 2015, amid developments in the Car wash. After the corruption scandal and running out of cash, Petrobras decided that it would only resume work on the refinery if it found a partner.
