Petrobras' contract with the Prysmian Group will be worth 92 million euros. The Italian company highlights role in providing offshore technologies

The Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecommunications cable systems industry, published a note on the last 20th of July, saying that it won a contract for the total supply of 350 km of high quality electro-hydraulic umbilicals in deep waters using steel tubes and thermoplastic technology, along with specialized offshore and logistical services by Petrobras. The contract, worth approximately 92 M €, aims to meet the technological demand for updating installation and operation in offshore projects in Brazil. Steel tubes and thermoplastic umbilicals will be designed, produced, tested and delivered during 2022-2025 by the Group's Center of Excellence for Dynamic Subsea Technologies used by Petrobras in Vila Velha.

The components are made of steel and thermoplastic and will be used in deep-sea operations and offshore logistics services, that is, on oil exploration platforms at sea.

CEO of the Prysmian Group highlights that the company is increasingly winning contracts with oil companies

Hakan Ozmen, EVP Projects BU Prysmian Group, says this achievement is the successful result of Prysmian's focus on delivering cutting-edge umbilical solutions for safer and more efficient use of resources. It is also another step forward in the development of advanced offshore technologies (such as the contract with Petrobras) and highlights the Group's role as the perfect partner for a digital, remote and electrified global transformation.

“We are proud to celebrate another milestone with our long-term and value-added partnership with Petrobras, marked by passion and dedication to adapting the best technology solutions of the Prysmian Group to the specific operational demand of Petrobras”, he added.

On July 13, Petrobras development director João Henrique Rittershaussen gave an interview to epbr, talking about hiring an FPSO for a deep water project in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin. The director points out that Petrobras has already launched a competition process for contracting the platform on the market and that the proposals should be received in 07.

In an interview, Rittershaussen stated that a bidding process was initiated for the Built Operate and Transfer (BOT) model, whereby the charterer operates the platform for some time and subsequently transfers it to Petrobras. The process aims at a unit of the type FPSO.

João Henrique says that the FPSO BOT for the deep water project in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin is already on the road and that the companies are already working on the process. According to him, Petrobras should already receive a proposal next year. The BOT model is new for Petrobras, although the company had anticipated in February this year that it intended to work with this option for the deep waters of the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin. In the interview, Rittershaussen also pointed out that Petrobras has been working hard to reduce the time to deploy platforms, as well as to reduce construction time and increase the efficiency of the units.
