The Brazilian oil giant increases its production capacity with the FPSO Almirante Barroso platform

In the wonderful city, a significant novelty in the oil industry: this Wednesday, May 31, Petrobras officially launched the FPSO Almirante Barroso, its fifth floating production, storage and transfer unit, in the pre-salt main beam, the Búzios field, further expanding its production capacity in the Santos Basin.

In favor of Brazilian Energy Security

With its heart beating in the Búzios field, Petrobras already has platforms P-74, P-75, P-76 and P-77 in operation. With a robust production of about 560 thousand barrels per day, this offshore giant contributes with about 17% of the national oil production, positioning itself as the second largest producing field in the country, just behind the renowned Tupi.

The future vision for the development of the Búzios field includes a total of 11 platforms. At the moment, six more units are under construction: FPSO Almirante Tamandaré, P-78, P-79, P-80, P-82 and P-83.

“Búzios encapsulates the significance of the pre-salt layer for Petrobras' production and for the country's energy security. By 2025, with the FPSO Almirante Barroso reaching its maximum capacity and with the addition of new units, the field's production should approach an impressive mark of 700 thousand barrels per day”, expressed the president of Petrobras, Jean Paul Prates.

Floating Platform with Expanded Capacity

The FPSO Almirante Barroso increases production capacity to up to 150 thousand barrels per day of oil and 6 million m³ per day of natural gas. This unit, chartered with the modec, is strategically positioned 180 km from the coast of Rio de Janeiro and operates in a water depth of 1,9 meters.

Commanding the operation of the field, Petrobras holds a dominant stake of 88,99% in the shared deposit of Búzios, in partnership with the Chinese companies CNOOC (7,34%) and CNODC (3,67%). This new expansion phase only reinforces the importance of Petrobras for the Brazilian oil industry and for the country's energy security.
