A Technological Partnership Transforming Port Logistics
A routine that was once predominantly manual now gains agility and precision with the help of technology. Lyncas, a renowned technology and custom design company, collaborated with Porto Itapoá – one of Brazil's port giants located on the north coast of Santa Catarina – to develop an application that significantly improves container monitoring processes.
Implementation of Advanced Technology in Porto Itapoá
Aiming to improve the management of reefer containers – refrigerated units that must maintain a constant temperature – the partnership focused on digitizing the monitoring of these containers and meeting other demands of the organization, such as the availability of the system throughout the entire length of the port, which covers an area of 300 thousand m2.
“In certain areas of the port, there were connectivity failures that hampered work, both online and offline. Therefore, our focus was to guarantee a quick synchronization time, since all the logistics of the place depend on an integrated and online system”, declares Cleyton Hort, CEO of Lyncas.

The Cruciality of Automated Monitoring
For Sandro Martins, IT and Innovation manager at Porto Itapoá, the importance of monitoring reefer containers is indisputable. “The damage would be enormous if a valuable cargo, such as 35 tons of shrimp, were damaged due to a loss of temperature. It is crucial for us that this process is meticulously controlled and automated. We resorted to innovation and digital processes to optimize the use of labor and face these challenges”, explains Martins.
From Manual to Digital Processes
Previously, port operators had to travel to specific locations to monitor containers and deal with connectivity issues. Now, thanks to the application developed by Lyncas, operators can carry out monitoring more effectively, even using a QR Code. This eliminates the need to travel to the base to collect information, saving time and reducing the possibility of manual errors.
“There was a significant reduction in container monitoring time and also a decrease in manual work, which became more analytical and judicious,” said Abiatar Prestes, responsible for projects at Porto Itapoá.
Towards the Future with Innovation
Porto Itapoá, with the capacity to handle 1,2 million TEUs (containers of six meters in internal length) per year, is approaching the final stage of an expansion that will make it possible to handle two million TEUs annually.
The partnership between Porto and Lyncas in the Porto 4.0 program, which aims to improve the dynamics of the port's operation, has been in existence for almost three years. The development of the application took a year, considering the process of idealization, construction, development of IoT equipment to work on trailers, in addition to research, concept tests, pilots, and other stages of the project.
“Lyncas worked tirelessly to understand our routines and find practical solutions to our challenges. The team was committed to improving the quality of what we were doing, working directly with professionals, customers and employees. Everything that has been conceived so far has taken into account the pillars of Porto Itapoá: innovation, modernity, sustainability and efficiency”, concludes Martins.
