Project using the frame of buoys from the Port of RJ is being tested and will mark the return of its activity after 7 years of stoppage
A project in the Port of RJ, more precisely in the buoys located north of the Cruise Terminal of the Port of Rio de Janeiro, is in the final testing phase, after 7 years of inactivity. Look here ! Efficiency in the Maritime Transport sector was highlighted!
Operations on the buoy board were tested a few days ago using the ship Stena Bulk, which is 182,9 meters long and 40 meters wide.
The expectation is that the set of buoys will move around 800 thousand tons of oil and derivatives per year to the Manguinhos Refinery (REFIT).
The volume will correspond to a 214% increase in the movement of this type of cargo in the port, in relation to the volume handled in 2018, returning to the levels of 2003 and 2004.

The transfer
To be sent to the Manguinho refinery in RJ, the liquid bulk cargo unloaded on the buoys will follow a 6,8 km pipeline, 3,5 km on land and 3,2 km on sea.
During the 7 years that the buoys were inoperative, the cargo was unloaded in São Paulo and arrived at the Manguinhos refinery by truck, therefore, a substantial improvement in logistics and in the operational part is expected, which will provide new business to the refinery, benefiting thus the state of Rio de Janeiro.
Initial estimates indicate that around 33 tons of liquid bulk will be handled by mooring, initially with one ship per month in the first year, and two ships per month from the second, raising the annual handling to something around 800 tons.
