The terminal in Aracruz records its best year in cargo movement and financial results
In a landmark year, where it celebrated its 45th anniversary, Portocel, strategically located in Aracruz, Espírito Santo, reached new levels of excellence. The terminal, known for its efficiency in logistics and port transport, saw a significant increase in its cargo movement, reaching a total of 6,65 million tons in 2023. This number represents a 6% growth compared to the previous year, setting a new record for the port. In addition to the volume of cargo, Portocel also celebrated its best financial result, with a Ebitda which exceeded the 30 numbers by 2022%, and an exemplary performance in safety, achieving the lowest severity rate in its history.
Strategic expansion and cargo diversification
In December, the terminal broke monthly pulp handling records, shipping 642,8 thousand tons, an increase of almost 33% compared to the same period of the previous year. Pulp, with a total of 6,24 million tons moved during the year, was the flagship, benefiting from the entry into operation of LD Celulose and the consistent exports of companies such as Suzano, Cenibra and Veracel. Furthermore, Portocel handled 412 thousand tons of general cargo, including granite and steel products, demonstrating its capacity to logistics management versatile and efficient.
In the last quarter of 2023, the port expanded its storage area by 60%, adding 300 thousand m² of space. This expansion opens doors for the movement of an even greater variety of products, such as coffee, fertilizers, vehicles, and other project cargo, reinforcing Aracruz's role as a vital logistics hub in the region and attracting new businesses and partnerships.

Innovation and sustainability as pillars
Portocel's Executive Operations Manager, Alexandre Billot Mori, emphasizes the importance of innovation and sustainability in the terminal's operations. The partnership with the Verbbruge terminal, in the Netherlands, for the operation of the automatic spreader, is an example of the port's commitment to technological innovation. This and other initiatives not only improve operational efficiency, but also reinforce the safety and sustainability of port operations.
Portocel is also exploring new fronts, such as the operation of a terminal in the port of Santos and the beginning of fertilizer movement in partnership with Adufértil, projects that promise to further expand its capacity and diversify services. Such developments are accompanied by significant investments and the generation of direct and indirect jobs, contributing to local and regional economic development.
Recognitions and future perspectives
The year 2023 was full of recognition for Portocel, including national and regional awards that highlighted its innovations in port technology and energy sustainability. These awards reflect the terminal's ongoing commitment to operational excellence, innovation and positive social impact in its community.
With an optimistic vision for the future, Portocel plans to continue expanding its partnerships and exploring new business opportunities. The terminal's strategy aims not only to leverage results, but also to maximize its cargo handling capacity in an innovative and sustainable way. Portocel's upward trajectory in 2023 sets a solid precedent for its continued success, promising new milestones and significant contributions to the logistics sector and the region's economy.
