The wind turbine alone can generate over 74 million kilowatt hours of electricity every year.

The project is signed by the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) Haizhuang and covers an area of 53 square meters, according to the Daily Mail. The area corresponds to the size of seven football fields, and one of the blades of the offshore wind turbine is 128 meters long.

To get a sense of its power, the offshore turbine is capable of powering up to 40 homes over an entire year, with its 18 megawatts. At full wind speed, the structure generates up to 44,8 kilowatt hours of electricity, which means that a single turbine can generate over 74 million kilowatt hours of electricity every year.

New wind turbine provides a sustainable energy source

According to CSSC Haizhuang, providing wind energy on a large scale can reduce coal consumption by 25 tons and carbon dioxide emissions by 61 tons per year. In the statement, the company states that “the turbine is capable of reducing the cost of wind farms and establishing a solid foundation for the development of the offshore wind industry (on the high seas)”. Furthermore, CSSC Haizhuang cites that for the higher output of this turbine, 13% fewer units would be required to generate 1GW of electricity than if the previous 16 MW model were installed.

In addition to protecting the environment, the offshore turbine appears to be pocket-friendly for the Chinese.

According to the matter of Globo.com, the wind energy company did not disclose exactly how much it cost to build the wind turbine. However, the engineers claim that it will save more than 100 million yuan in other construction costs, which is equivalent to 75 million reais.

CSSC Haizhuang claims that it has “mastered the core technologies of high-power offshore wind turbines” and “led the global offshore wind energy industry to reach a new milestone” with its new wind turbine model. Furthermore, the project should ensure that China achieves the goal of becoming a carbon neutral country by 2060.
