Brazil has the connection to systems of several sources of supply from different basins, such as gas imported from Bolivia and Argentina, in addition to LNG from several terminals in the country.
The integration of the logistics infrastructure to increase the gas supply chain in South America will be an important factor in stimulating the expansion of the pipeline network in the region. The relevance of energy assets such as the production of gas in Vaca Muerta (Argentina) with significant growth, the expansion of the pre-salt and the maintenance of the import of Bolivian gas are opportunities for the development of projects to interconnect these markets.

“We have the connection with systems of several sources of supply from different basins, such as gas imported from Bolivia and Argentina, in addition to LNG from several terminals in the country”, emphasized the executive director of natural gas at IBP, Sylvie D´Apote, in plenary this Wednesday (10.11), on the second day of Rio Pipeline 2021.
Increased gas supply from Argentina encourages integration with Brazil
Carlos Rabuffetti, Senior Business Development Manager at Tecpetrol, highlighted that by 2024 there will be an increase in Argentina's gas supply by around 32 million m3/day – which encourages this integration, with flexible supply to Brazil.

TBG's commercial director, Jorge Roberto Abrahao Hijjar, is strongly committed to the integration of systems to guarantee the supply of gas to the market. “Security of supply is not present in isolated systems. An integrated system will provide flexibility from a commercial and logistical point of view,” said Hijjar.
Gabriela Aguilar, Excelerate Energy's Vice President for South America, highlighted the role of LNG in the sustainability of the market, both from an environmental point of view and from the guarantee of supply. “LNG is an energy that emits less compared to fuels like diesel. It is 35% less polluting than other fuels.”
The transport of hydrogen in gas pipelines, in pure form or mixed with natural gas, still involves many questions in the international pipeline market
The issue of energy transition was also debated over a longer period of time, with an eye on the development of the hydrogen market.
The transport of hydrogen in gas pipelines, pure or mixed with natural gas, still involves many issues in the international pipeline market. What is more concrete is that the demand for hydrogen will grow due to the energy transition environment and the need for a new fuel to meet the needs of heavy industry. These were some of the conclusions of the session “The Hydrogen Pipeline Transport”, last Wednesday (10).
Philippe Darcis, senior director of Pipeline Technology at Tenaris, stated that the demand for hydrogen will double every decade. ''Hydrogen will be part of our daily lives,'' he said. The executive added that the demand will come from the industry's need to adapt to the energy transition.
Regulatory changes are needed in several countries to adapt pipelines to transport hydrogen
Aurelie Carayol, director of the Hydrogen Project at GRTgaz, a French gas pipeline operator, stated that the company is studying the introduction of hydrogen in its gas pipelines and assessing the impacts of this change. GRTgaz leads a working group that researches the topic and plans actions. One of the projects studied is the creation of the Hydrogen Valley in the region of Germany, France and Luxembourg, where many industries are concentrated. “In this region, by 2030 there will be a significant growth in hydrogen transport”, predicts Carayol.
Executives stressed, however, that regulatory changes are needed in several countries to adapt pipelines for the transport of hydrogen, as well as an assessment of safety issues.
A River Pipeline, one of the most important events in the pipeline segment in the world, took place this year virtually, with the participation of over 1.500 delegates from 27 countries.
The event is sponsored by Petrobras, NTS, Rosen, TAG, TBG, ATGÁS, AMPP, Compass, Herrenknecht, Tenaris, Wood and Elastomeros, and has the participation of the Federal Government.
