Volkswagen says the Polo is still in normal production, but dealerships are facing a lack of stock and orders are being held up for specific versions.
Volkswagen says the Polo is still in normal production, but dealerships are facing a lack of stock and orders are being held up for specific versions.

With the launch of the Tera, the Polo versions are facing stock shortages and ordering problems. Volkswagen assures that everything is normal, but dealerships in the country are facing serious difficulties!

The arrival of the Volkswagen Tera to the Brazilian market may be an important milestone for the German brand, but it also brought to light a major problem with its most popular compact model: the Polo. The information is from the portal auto+

Several dealerships are having difficulty meeting demand for some versions of the hatchback, which is causing a lot of concern.

Although Volkswagen has assured that everything is in order, the resale scenario reveals a picture of uncertainty.

Dealers face shortages in Polo stock

According to information from dealerships consulted by the Auto+ portal, the main challenge lies in the intermediate versions of the Polo.

The 170 TSI manual version, followed by the MPI and Sense variants, are in extremely low stock.

These models have a lower sales volume and, consequently, have order restrictions.

A dealership located in the interior of São Paulo revealed that stock is already very low, and that orders for the MPI and 170 TSI manual versions are blocked in the dealership's system.

On the other hand, a dealership in Rio de Janeiro reported that not even the Polo MPI is available to customers.

“Here, only the Polo Track arrived, the MPI has low demand, and it seems that Volkswagen is no longer manufacturing this version”, commented a salesman.

Volkswagen assures that everything is back to normal

When asked about the situation of the Polo versions, Volkswagen, in an official note to Auto+, assured that “all versions of the New Polo continue to be produced and sold normally”.

The brand, however, acknowledged that some dealerships are facing specific problems and promised that production will soon be expanded to regularize supply, especially for versions with greater demand.

Polo production changes: focus on Tera and Polo Track

Volkswagen's production situation in Brazil is undergoing significant adjustments.

The Polo Track, the most popular version of the compact hatchback, will be produced at the São Bernardo do Campo factory, in the state of São Paulo.

This move marks the return of the model to the Anchieta plant, which had previously transferred all Polo production to Taubaté.

This change, however, comes at a time of high demand, as the São Bernardo factory will also be responsible for producing the recently launched Tera, the brand's new subcompact SUV.

With the Tera being produced at the same plant, Volkswagen will need to divide its production capacity between the Polo Track and the Tera, which is considered the company's new flagship in Brazil.

According to the portal Segredos Cars, the Taubaté factory will be responsible for producing the less sought-after Polo versions, such as the MPI, 170 TSI manual, Comfortline and Highline variants.

Meanwhile, São Bernardo will be responsible for supplying the market with the Polo Track, the model that leads sales and remains the most sought after.

The impact of Tera on Polo production

The new scenario in Volkswagen's production in Brazil reflects a broader movement by the automaker to adapt to the current market consumption profile.

The Tera, with a higher price and greater added value, is a strategic bet by the brand for 2025.

The subcompact model, alongside other SUVs, promises to capture the attention of consumers who are looking for more technology and comfort, essential features for the new models that have been successful in the Brazilian market.

It is expected that, with the increase in Tera production, there will be a migration of consumers from the more expensive versions of the Polo, such as the Comfortline and Highline, to the variants of the new SUV.

This move, however, could have a negative impact on Polo sales, as the cheaper versions of the model no longer have room to compete with the Tera's prices., especially when it receives entry-level versions like the MPI, which would bring prices even closer together.

GTS version of the Polo will no longer be produced

Another point that could affect demand for the Polo is the end of the GTS version, which will be replaced by the Nivus GTS.

The change in Volkswagen's model portfolio has raised doubts among consumers, as the GTS version of the Polo was seen as a high-performance sports option within the line.

The brand, when replacing the Polo GTS with the Nivus GTS, focuses on a more current model, aligned with market trends.

The Nivus GTS, therefore, should attract the attention of consumers who would previously opt for the Polo GTS, while the Polo model will continue to gain prominence in the most basic versions, such as the Track.

Polo may lose space to Tera: the market transition

With the arrival of the Tera and Volkswagen's strategic move, it is natural that the Polo will lose space in the Brazilian market.

The model, which already led sales in the hatchback segment, finds itself in a scenario of intense competition, with the arrival of new SUVs and the change in the behavior of Brazilian consumers, who are increasingly inclined to choose taller models with greater added value.

Furthermore, the similarity in price between the Polo and the Tera may make it difficult for consumers to choose, especially because the Tera offers more advanced features and a modern design, something that the Polo, in its current versions, cannot yet compete with as effectively.

Volkswagen tries to minimize impacts on the market

Volkswagen is still trying to maintain a balance between the production of the Polo and the delivery of the new versions of the Tera, in addition to ensuring that stock problems are resolved quickly.

What is certain is that, with the high demand for the Tera and the focus on producing the most profitable versions of the Polo, the brand may face challenges in serving all consumers who still have the compact hatchback as their first purchase option.

Now, with changes in the production line and the Tera gaining strength in the market, the Polo finds itself in a delicate position.

Consumers who prefer the model for its practicality and cost-effectiveness may find themselves attracted to more modern alternatives, such as the Tera, which combines SUV features and a competitive price.

Volkswagen, however, seeks to maintain the Polo tradition, while investing in the future with the launch of new models.

I bought a Polo from the dealership in Manaus, they promised to deliver it in 15 days, it's already been 20 days and nothing.

My father and I each bought a Polo sense tsi automatic 2025 from CSS Mecautor in the interior of RS. The 2 Polos took 6 days to come from the factory in São Paulo.
The Polo Sense 2025 is very technologically advanced. It is even more complete than the Confortline version.

An SUV for city use is a huge mistake. Terrible aerodynamics, terrible stability, ****, fuel-guzzling, bad steering. There is no evolution in it, it is regression.
