According to a study by Firjan, investments and new oil exploration and production units should increase revenue and generate jobs in Rio de Janeiro
Released yesterday (22) in an online event, the 5th Yearbook of Petroleum in Rio developed by the Federation of Industries of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan) brought optimistic data for the oil and gas sector in the state. The expectations for the next period are of many investments and job creation.

The document highlights that there are ten production systems in the licensing phase for operation in Rio between 2025 and 2028 in the Santos Basin pre-salt layer. The entry into operation of new platforms should generate R$ 300 million in ICMS for Rio de Janeiro.
The publication also shows that 200 new wells will be drilled in areas tendered from 2017 in the offshore state of Rio de Janeiro. In addition, investments of approximately BRL 2 billion are also estimated in the downstream segment by 2024.

The launch event of the Yearbook was attended by the president of Firjan, Eduardo Eugenio Gouvêa Vieira; the Secretary of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, José Mauro Ferreira Coelho; acting general director of the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), Raphael Moura; among other oil and gas industry executives.
Investments and Jobs in Rio de Janeiro
The study of firjan it also predicts that each R$ 1 billion in revenue generated in the activity is capable of generating 416 direct jobs and 2,7 indirect jobs. The effect on income was estimated at R$ 560 million in the country, with R$ 210 million absorbed by Rio.
According to Karine Fragoso, Petroleum, Gas and Naval Manager at Firjan and general director of the National Petroleum Industry Organization (Onip), approximately 45% of the workforce in Rio de Janeiro was dedicated to this market in 2019. In 2017, 33 % of jobs in RJ were in the oil supply chain.
The state of Rio de Janeiro has more than 80% of known oil reserves, as well as total production. According to Heloísa Esteves, EPE's oil sector secretary, of the 39 production systems expected to be installed by 2030, 26 will be in Rio de Janeiro.
